  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ethanol in your gas ?

84scrambler

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Just found this on one of those intronets... lol Although I have not done this yet, there is a station that claims non-ethanol in my area and I plan on testing his gas.

Put a small amount of pure water in a test tube and mark the amount with a line on the test tube. Now fill the test tube the rest of the way with the gasoline you suspect contains ethanol. Put a stopper on it and shake well and allow it to sit until the gas and water separate into different layers.
If the water layer is higher up the side of the test tube than it was before you added the gasoline, the gas contains ethanol, the ethanol goes into solution in the water layer and adds to its volume. Ethanol is the only commonly used gasoline additive that is highly water soluble.

How do we really know were not filling our tanks with ethanol gas, what if the station ran out last week and just ordered more gas and the station put ethanol back in thier tanks and now we are buying it .

How long does it take their tanks to be 100% ethanol free after having ethanol in their tanks before .

Should we just believe them because they put up a sign?

Ethanol is the devil on a 2 stroke for sure. It's not worth a damn in any engine once it absorbs moisture. The people selling corn seem to like the idea of putting it in our fuel.

In NY 10% Ethanol gas is the standard. A lot of stations sell 91 Non-Ethanol, but it's sold from a mixing pump, that also has 87 and 89 Ethanol gas. Friend in fuel business told me, it takes about 4 gals, to clear the previous fuel grade pumped, before what you selected gets pumped. If you pump 5 gal of 91 Non-Ethanol in you bike can, you are getting 4 gals of 87 Ethanol/1 gal 91!

He also told me that Ethanol is added at tank farm, by the driver. He loads what he thinks is 90% full and then adds the Ethanol. It's not really accurate. Local shop had fuel sample checked.... 24% Ethanol!

Plus when they add ethanol they can also add some water which will absorb in the fuel... but I'm sure that they would be honest and never try to profit by selling water for $2.50 a gallon.

Sounds like we buy what ever they say their selling.
try this, pure-gas.org its a gas only search for each state.

Years ago gov officials would randomly check gas pumps for accuracy and caught many stations calibrating their pumps to nick you for 1/10th of a gallon here and there, much like the "certified beef" inspectors. Now that the gov has cut back funding on such things, the laws are still in place but nobody around to enforce them. VP110 is all I put in any 2 stroke or motorcycle I own.

Vp is all I ever run. Costs lil more but worth in in long run.
Plus you get plenty of 5 gal cans to collect!

All I run is VP! It's way more than a "lil more", but worth every penny! When other guys are chasing jetting problems and cleaning carbs... I'm pretty much trouble free!

Pure Gas site is nice, but buyer beware! If fuel is sold in a mixing pump, as I posted earlier... You could still be getting Ethanol! Buy from a place, that has dedicated tank and pump!

ive been running pump 93 in my bikes....i know it contains ethanol but i treat everything with startron ethanol treatment. i leave my bikes sit with fuel in them and have torn into the carbs 2 years later and they were spotless. im kind of the carb guy at my work place tho and have seen some badly corroded carbs. i guess the startron works? i know a better solution would be to just run vp tho.

CAM 2 leaded alcohol free is available at the pump near me. It's been $8.50 a gallon for about three years now.

so do any of you guys order your fuel? i would think that would be prohibitive and you would have to find a local place.

2.50, priced water lately, that is the filtered stuff at the store
at a gas station 4.00 a gallon

How much is vp per gallon? and is it the same as sunoco race fuel ?
I pay $7.25 - $8.50 per gallon for vp110 depending on where I buy it. Sonoco was similar in price but the VP dealers I go to have it in bulk so that might make it a bit cheaper. If you buy a 55 gal drum you get a better price. Another plus for VP110 is that it has a 3 year shelf life with no additives compared to most pump gas which is 90 days on average.

has anybody heard any more on this so called off road gas no anol of anysort i think i heard it mite even have some lead in it:excuseme: you know for saws, weedwhackers and such

You could always run av100LL that's short for aviation , 100 octane, and low lead. Yes , the average guy can go to the local airport with your regular 5 gal. red gas can marked for off road only and buy it just like your corner store. It's usually around 4.50 per gal.

VP100 (aka StreetBlaze 100)Oxygenated with ethanol, this CARB-legal fuel is specifically engineered for high-performance motorcycles and more. It's environmentally friendly and street legal throughout the U.S. VP100 makes substantially more power than pump gas as well as offering better throttle response, a critical factor when navigating jumps, streams or around trees. Its higher octane also offers better detonation protection for extreme conditions such as slogging through mud or sand washes with the throttle pinned. When unleaded fuel is required, VP100 is a very cost-effective option in terms of performance gained for dollars spent compared to pump gas (VP’s U4.2 offers even better performance gains when leaded fuels are permitted). Contains no metal compounds and won't harm catalytic converters .

VP-110™Not your "standard" 110! Highest rated MON of any 110 fuel on the market. Formulated for use in naturally aspirated engines with CRs up to approximately 12:1-13:1. Good lower cost alternative
Just found this on their web site, which one are you guys using the one with ethanol or with lead ? and now I am wondering which one they are offering at the local race track? They also make T-2 that is premixed at 40:1 and is a leaded fuel.
with so many options I am in the dark now. I just want to go fill my can or pick up a can of the right stuff...
