  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Electric start freewheel spacer, anyone have a picture or specs?

I have been chasing down a whine in my bottom end of my te450.
Long story short, bought it with a broken kick stand stop, had no electric start. Bought the parts off a ebayer and thought it was complete. The parts manual is a little hard to understand. It seems there are two different spacers for the electric and non electric start. My "kit" did not come with one so I used the one that was in there. Not realizing it was scraping the case. I noticed the sound was present even in neutral so I started taking the flywheel off and the electric start parts. I found that the freewheel was scraping. After looking at the parts manual more it seems that I may be using the the incorrect spacer. The parts schematic shows 3 different spacers, I am not sure what goes where? I only have the one pictured below on the shaft.

So my question is, anyone know the difference between the two? Is it just length?

Also while the freewheel sprocket fits into the one way bearing nicely, there is a gap between the shaft and the sprocket. Is the sprocket supposed to just float on the bearing, or is there another bushing that should go in there?

I have can easily make a new spacer as I have machining capabilities. I just need to know the specs.

Thanks in advance,
J

So #18 is what I have in my picture?

After reading through the repair manual I found it in the dissassembly section. You just confirmed what I was thinking.
So 28,29,30 are the needle bearing, spacer, and washer?

Thanks George!

Now where can I find these in stock!

Do you see how that starter gear is splined to the crank?
The x-light is not and that is why my flywheel spun on my 2010.

will do thanks.
Anyone have one have any of these parts? Looks like I can get the bearing, but not the spacer. Or does anyone have a length on the spacer so I can make my own?
