  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ECU mod and plug change 2013 TE511

Mikepod

Husqvarna
B Class
I should know better, but I introduced two variables at once. I had ZipTy mod my ECU and changed my plug to an NGK Iridium CR9EIX 3521. Now I sputter at high RPMs. Have throttle pegged and it almost seems like it is starving for fuel.

Any ideas, other than the obvious, putting old plug back in?

Thanks.

There is a wire that attaches to the head of the engine, you can see it on the left hand side near the top. It is a ground wire. Remove it and move it to your frame near by, there is actually a hole already in the frame near the front of your engine up top, but I added a new hole in a convenient location. Ty says it is the #1 failure (*When racing of course and may or may not ever fail during normal use) on the 449/511 Huskys. It gets hot/vibrates and breaks inside the insulation and you won't even know it, but your bike will be sputtering and not run right.

I'm starting to suspect this on my own bike. I haven't followed the wire up to the plug yet, but is there a way to test continuity? Or, can I just preemptively replace the whole wire?

Unplug both ends and use a VOM meter

Wasn't sure if I could get the end out of the plug, or if I can't get it out of the plug, which pin in the plug is ground. I'll see if I can tell from the wiring diagram. Meters aren't my forte, so this electrical stuff can be a bit black magic to me.

Just unplug the spark coil and remove the other end from the head. Set the meter to ohms and touch both ends. If you get an open load while wiggling the cable, then you should probably replace it.

tis not listed in the parts book, but can we buy the small harness that plugs into the coil? The wires (3) are only a couple inches long and they are not shown on the wire harness in the parts schematic.
Does it come with the coil?
