  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ECU Map Switch for 250/310 will it work for the TE449

F1000

A Class
There is a nice map switch P/N 8539428, used on the 2013 250/310 bikes, for switching between maps 1 & 2. Will this switch work for the TE449? Is it a basic "make" and "break" type switch...SPST? I believe that is a Husky part number, about 22 bucks.

Yes. I suggest you reflash to map three and use the switch to go between map modes A and B

F1000,

Did you order this part? I was thinking of doing the same. I assume you splice into the wire loop of the power up plug; looks like it comes with plenty of wire length.

Interestingly, the description from ktm-parts.com says that map 1 is standard and map 2 is for mud/slippery...does that mean map 1 would be race mode (mode B) on our bikes and map 2 is economy mode (mode A)?

Tinkin - is it on the fly like the KTMs use or does it load the map at startup, ie you have to kill the motor and let the system power off before it will load the new map? I thought the latter, but not sure where I picked up that idea.

So I ended up ordering the part and installing. It works great. It is not plug and play and the length of wire is only 18 inches or so, but after buying some wire and splicing it between the map switch and power up plug, it's a slick set up. And on the switch "map 1" is map A (EPA mode) and "map 2" is map B (power up mode). You have to have the bike off to switch, but with the Map set #3 loaded by ZipTy, I can convienently switch between A and B at trailheads or trip changes.

I have found Map mode A with Map set #3 is actually not bad with a properly broken in engine (still flames out with a new, tight engine; 500 miles seems to be the break-in point). Mode A gets substantially better mileage (45 mpg is my guess) vs the power up mode B (25 mpg is my guess). Obviously it's down on power, but for road stretches, dirt roads, cruising, or needing to get max MPG, it's very suitable and a great option. Recommended.

A thread I created over a year ago here: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/dual-map-handlebar-switch.27000/
May have some more insight on the subject. I'm happy this is working out for you. I plan on remapping my powercommander to have similar results, except I can boost the fuel at low rpm on the mpg map to keep the flame outs null.

Yes, PCV is obviously best option, but the ZipTy reflash with map selector is a very good cost effective option to those that were wondering. Thanks for the link!map switch.jpg
