  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

DVLA registering in the UK

Have been having a bit of a nightmare. Skip to the end for DVLA news.
Three visits to the Oxford office to register my 83cr with a dating letter from Husky Sport, numerous emails, calls to HVA and Husky sport eventually forced me to drive down to the Portsmouth office where they accepted all my docs instantly no problem, I would use them again but.........
All 39 local offices are closing and the staff being made redundant, the business will be shared between online and local Post offices. Could be better, could be much much worse from my experiences with the PO.
Good luck !
(I'll be sending the Oxford office a happy early retirement card with kisses, awkward sods)

You should see my correspondence files filled with pleas for help from German owners of CCM bikes who nead documentation of previous ownership to get their bikes registered in Euroland. DVLA and the German TÜV are both hell on earth ! (The only advice I can give from long experience is ... grovvel on bended knee for as long as it takes).

Postman just deliverd rejected docs. 'Following a check of the HMRC notification of vehicle arrival system it is necassery for you to contact HMRC before we can process your application'
My cover note runs out Thursday, insurance will be cancelled costing me at least £100.
I think they are saying I need to pay VAT on it. **************************************** They deserve sacking the lot of them.
