• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I must be getting old. Every year I get more and more into dualsporting. Part of it for me is that I live one stop light from some amazing country. Got a few hours after work? Hop on the DS bike and head out. Hit some fun road...

I do a lot of DS rides and some tours here in SA. We are fortunate to have wild Game a stones throw away.
Exploring new roads time with Old and new friends just the smell of the outdoors rain or shine.
Many Sundays i take groups of new riders out to introduce them to DS riding. And other days i just go and do some solo riding-- Love it. The great thing is we have many ladies joining in on their own bikes now and they also enjoy DS riding--

Here's a good video from last weekend's KTM National Dualsport event in Kentucky. My pal Michele did a nice job putting this together. I think DSing is becoming more popular because people are realizing there's more to DSing than gravel roads and nat'l forrest. Not that that is bad, but it's great to do those roads and add in some gnarly trail.

btw, I went DSing yesterday on the new-to-me XR650R. About 100 miles of good stuff. Bobby from ATL BMW/Husqvarna would have been there but he was working on his extra capacity tank on his BMW 450x. Good to hear he's got a bigger tank. I'm sure everyone interested in the new Husky would love to hear about it!
 
Great post Kelly.:thumbsup: Although I like the tight s/t stuff sometimes it's just good to head out on some fire roads a put on some miles.

Dude, you pretty much just described my life for the last few years :)
DS'ing is easier on the body and the equipment, and it takes me to stunning remote places I've never seen before. I love it!

Of course, the new WR was meant to snap me out of my daydreamy dualsport state and bring me back to my roots, which is gnarly single track, but I'm incredibly excited about our upcoming trip to NV and OR on the big bikes :thumbsup:

I would absolutely love to do some dualsporting that is a bit more on the casual side, take in some of the scenery, stop and do a little campfire cooking and keep it more on the adventure tour side of things.
The D/S rides I've been on have been more representative of the vid that Arod posted. It seem that the clubs that sponsor events in my area are more of the belief that if you simply take an A-Enduro course, remove the timing from the event and throw in a ice cream stop that makes for a good D/S ride.
 
All of my rides start out as dual sports rides....
and completely degenerate from there.

I've been dualsporting since I had my first bike back in 1971. Stopped for a while till I got the racing thing out of my blood and went back to trail riding, then got a dirt bike plated for street and the started up again. I love it.
I'd have brought my fishing rod if I'd been on this ride.:D

I don't know if it's a sign of getting old or not Kelly - It's just fun! Especially if you live out west. :thumbsup:
 
So is anyone doing the Sheetiron this year? I think it's the best best dual sport "event" I've done, pretty much the only organized dual sport I do now. It's great to see more and more Huskies out there every year.
 
Great post, I have been working way to much and have the weekend off. I woke up the 5 " of snow and have Mothers day stuff to do. (Thats o.k.) Maybe tommorow nite. I have to get a ride on the calendar. I am thinking of wis/minn in july to catch the Millvile national.

Heading out today, weather should be much cooler than last year.:thumbsup:
 
Daul Sporting is just around the corner for me, at this stage of my life. Going to buy my wife a TTR125 over the weekend and teach her how to ride. I'm recovering from a badly broken wrist and may have a handfull of motocrosses left in me.

Daniel 508s have a look at the registerable Honda CRF230. Its a really great bike for learners, mellow air cooled motor, very low seat hight and 6 speed box so it can keep up on the fire trails. I had one for my boy when he was 12 before he moved up to a wr250f at 15. The little honda is a really really good little bike ans sooooo easy to maintain.
