  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Dual sporting a TE449?

Husqvarna
A Class
So, I just bought a TE449 "new"
Have read on thumpertalk of some guy having some seriuos issues with his 449.
Due to this work thing So far I have twenty miles on it.
I ride everything. Trails, roads, maybe a race like the desert 100 or Virginia grand prix.
But mainly I guess I am a dualsporter at heart.
Any suggestions and or warnings on what to look out for would be appreciated.
Oh, I was riding a WR250R so this to me is not a heavy bike. My last true race bike was KTM495 back in the day.

You can dual sport it to the tune of 50-100 miles of pavement to the trails. If it's farther than that, you should be hauling it there. What I found out dual sporting my TE450 ( http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/dual-sporting-a-2010-te-450-with-cheap-tricks.15347/ ) is that the miles/hours on a Husky are too valuable to waste on long 70 mph runs to get to the trails. I have had mine a year now, I have hauled to Arkansas, New Mexico twice, Colorado, and I ride 100 miles round trip here at home to some trails, and I have 6000 miles on the bike. From what I read, I'll be doing a top end pretty soon. Don't get me wrong, the bike is an absolute gas to ride, anywhere anytime, and I can cruise at 60-65 at 5500-6000 RPMs for as long as it takes (14t CSS), it's just that my TE450 belongs in the dirt, and I really am going to try and haul it to the dirt as much as I can in 2012.

Got over 2200 miles on my TE511 Ds the crap out of it and riding it off road. Been a great bike. I geared it up a little. Did a few 200 plus days on it no problem. Love that bike.

have not seen or heard of 449/511 bikes having problems.altho i am sure some onei bound to be unlucky.i dont think i would worry.use it the way you want and have fun with it.they go pretty far on a tank of gas, perhaps the whole Virginia gran prix.dan

I think the bike can go as far as your butt can handle, (seat hurts it after about 40 miles on the street) if we have to maintain these a bit more than a bike meant more for the street it is worth it. The bike fells some what like my crf450X; I wish I could have plated that bike. Im having a blast, passing the police on the street gets a second look; it truly is a dirtbike on the street. Have the same 11 449 bike 1-week 150 miles 50/50 dirt street.

Two words... Seat Concepts. Awesome seats. Great foam and cover. Very comfortable. Reasonably prices too...

I cant say I have heard of any serious issues with the 449/511s. I have sold 20+ of them and none of them have given grief.

Thanks for the input.
Just got back to my motel room. two more weeks out of town then home.
I am going to make a rear rack and a skid plate out of aluminum to start with.
Don't know if it will be cheaper, I just like making cool stuff for my bikes.
I did do some of my local trails this weekend. Lot more power than my WR250R, duh. :-)
If anyone is interested Virginia city grand prix is a fun ride/race, I'll be the 50yr old guy smokin his 35yr old buddies. It would be great to mix some red into the sea of orange.

That's exactly what I need - took my TE449 for its first dirt bike today - one thing, found with the very narrow seat on hard acceleration uphills or over jumps with the very narrow seat there's nothing to grip with the legs so all the stress is on the arms. Thought while riding that if the rear of the seat was a little wider would help take some of the strain on the legs. Do they do the full seat or do you buy the foam and cover and upholster the seat yourself?

I checked out thier site after reading this and you can send in your seat. Cool.

Yep, $20 is a steel if you do not want to do it yourself. I did mine myself and it was EZ and the foam and cover fit PERFECT. I seriously LOVE that seat. The type of foam they use is like nothing else and amazing. The shape is perfect, narrow in front for standing and flares out int he perfect spot. It took me a minute to get used the the rear section hitting my knees while standing but once i got used to it I actually liked it better than stock as you can grip the bike like StegPegs type a deal. When sitting you sit on the rear part and it is far wider and MUCH more comfortable. I have tried many seats ans these guys know there stuff. This seat is pretty much perfect IMHO.

I had Renazco, Corbin and Ed's Moto seats and for me the SC is the favorite.
The wide area is just like Kelly describes, it gives me a soft place to brace my legs. Perfect!
