• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Dual Sport Tires?

Have you looked at the Michelin Anakee - awesome tyres for the hard stuff and very capable on gravel. Also look at Conti Trail Attack.

I received a reply from my wheelsmith. He quoted $250-260 depending on how much the spokes came in at for a 19" conversion. Includes return shipping. I need clarification on rim width, if it's a 2.15" or 2.5". Also need more information on caliper to spoke clearance. My bike is a SM610 with a 320mm rotor amd Brembo caliper. It is tight now but need to crunch some numbers and come up with a ball park number for the increase in spoke angle.

There was a member who posted on this thread stating he had a 19" on his 610 but didn't state if it was a TE or SM.

In the interim, I sprung for a Dunlop TR91 Trailmax rear tire. The stock Dunlop wore out with cords showing. Not sure how the TR91 will pan out but they produce it in a 110/80-19 if I end up going that route.

That looks good what rim is that and how does it work for you?
I just got back from Idaho and the Shinkos worked better than I expected on the 1,300 mile trip. Here is a shot on some dirt at Seven Devils Campground.

Are you still running Shinko 705s with a 120/90-17 up front?

I recently put a 705 on the rear of my SM630. I just can't decided between putting a 705 on the front or going back to Avon Distanzias front and rear.

I'm mostly concerned that a 705 would look crazy huge on the front. But, those tires look correct on your bike. (For my riding style anyway.)

Do you have any more pictures? Thanks.

Still running them after a 1300 mile trip on all road types (asphalt and dirt) even about 50 miles in the rain I'm impressed with their feel and low tire wear. I think I'm sticking with them. The only place where I thing they would be an issued is sticky mud.

I put a Shinko 705 on the front last night. I've been running the rear for a couple months now. All I can say is... I Love it!

This is now the bike I envisioned when I bought it. Dragging pegs is not my thing. I ride 25 miles to work of mostly two-lane asphalt and get up to 70 MPH. On my way home I'll go the long way and hit 15 to 20 miles of fire roads, railroad tracks, power lines, and plenty of desert single track. The smile on my face is twice as big on the ride home...
