  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Drain bolt

I don't know- That's not a bolt that I would even refer to a torque reference chart for- its one that I am more comfortable going by feel- some guys buy 20 dollar torque wrenches that "adjust from 10-150 foot/lbs and set it to a low number as required and then snap the bolt off. Then blame the tool. If I had to guess what I would tighten the drain bolt by feel it would be about 5-7 foot/lbs- but I am not recommending anything other than going by feel. I may be wrong- but I don't think its common to use a torque wrench on every bolt even if there is a specified torque- and or locktite- I use locktite and anti-sieze (not together) on more things than I need to as required too.

On my bike I regreased the swingarm linkage this weekend- I don't have the torque specs- I checked with the torque wrench backwards (loosening) and I came up with 60 foot/lbs for the link bolts and 40 for the lower shock bearing bolt- so if someone has specs- how far off was I?

I plan to get a service manual sometime soon- I wonder if the drain bolt is listed or referenced in there for torque- I never looked for that torque setting on previous bikes that I had with manuals.

That stinkin crush washer stuck to the motor then droped in my oil container while doing an oil change I didnt even notice. I snugged everything back up and noticed I had a little leak. Well here we are 5 days later and I just did my 150 mile oil change and noticed I almost jacked up the threads with the taper that is in the drain bolt by not have a crush washer in between the case and the bolt so be very careful with that drain bolt. George at Up Tite recomends draining your oil from the side where the steel tube filters are to avoid this issue and its also a lower point on the motor.
