• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Down-under te310 / wr300 test

Kept reading about the great build quality like it was something new....and seemed to infer it was a result of BMW....???

I'm anxious to see the new speedo/tach & headlight they are talking about

Good find motorhead....

I still find it amusing as there is still two schools of thought as to the effectiveness of a (TE)310....here they say "bottom end that a 250 can only dream of "

Yet reading other mags " only a small but noticeable difference"

I need to try one myself....maybe next year I get the athena kit

I really want to ride a WR300. Too bad nobody will ever make a desert tank for that bike. Seems like a natural for the dez...

A 3.5G IMS tank from a pre-08 TE fits the WR chassis no problem.

When tested over here, they also thought it was only slightly different and claimed a 350 would have been a much better option. Which makes sense to me?

My 06 TC with the 300 kit was a noticeable difference over a 250. I did have the head ported though and I'm not sure how much that helped. I would lean towards the "the 250F only dreams of having this much power" statement.

Mike, the 3.5 IMS works and I read about a guy massaging the HUGE 610 tank on there but there was extensive modifications. I think it was the IMS 610 tank.

I wish I could test ride these bikes. If I click my heals 3 times and cross my fingers maybe they will bring some to National Enduro's so we can ride them the day before.

The te 310 sounds interesting. I am 215 lbs and 6'1" and wondering if the uphills would be a problem for me? I have never rode a 250f so I have nothing to compare it to.

TBM mag from the UK were at the same test and basically say the same thing as the aussie review here, that the 310 is a trail riders machine (well at least for them) and i think they are right. The 250 is a great machine (just heavy) but needs to be revved hard and then it will hustle along nicely but if you are out for a ride (rather than a race) you probably tire of always being in attack mode as such.

hence the comment about the bottom end, which makes the bike much nicer to ride in trail conditions where you dont want to be revving the nuts off of it.

so perhaps they are saying the same thing except one is coming from the racer view where the gain of power is not so big if you are always high in the revs, or from a more trail perspective where you notice the low down torque at lower revs.

6'2" and roughly the same weight, no problem with uphills on this bike at all

My 06 TC250 with a 300 kit and ported head was the best hill climbing bike i have ever owned. Not sure why but I think it just had the right amount of power. 6 foot 210.

I wish North America could get some half decent magazines like Down Under.

Dave

Careful what you wish for....;)

ADB's "impartiality" is not viewed all that highly, down here, in this part of the world. They do appear to be "advertiser" driven at times...

A good Aussie magazine for the average "trailrider" is TrailZone......

BTW...Issue 21 has a review on the TE310
