  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Dissapointed with new exhaust

Have an 08 510 SMR and recently put on the Arrow exhaust that comes with the power up kit. Other parts to the power up kit came installed on the bike. Recently found a new Arrow exhaust for $250 so I bought it. Bike runs like complete crap now. Loss of power, popping on acceleration, popping and hesitating on steady throttle. The top end is gone on it. I was having trouble keeping up with a DRZ last night. Almost wrecked because the bike was surging and sputtering in mid corner. I expected it might make the bike run a little differently but this is ridiculous. The kit is made specifically for that model so you would think it wouldn't ruin the bike. I can't believe you have to spend another $500 to get it tuned with a PC w/ autotune or a dyno tuning session. I'll probably just put the old exhaust back on and pout all night because the bike ran great with it. Anyone else have this problem? Is programming the ecu with the ibeat software cheaper?

Hmm. I'm guessing that your bike has some iBeat tuning to get it to run best with the stock pipe. You should be able to get it to run well enough without spending a lot of money - my '08 ran very well with the Power Up kit and no tuning at all. (It runs even better with a power commander.) Have you checked to see if your ECU is the newer version? Later '08 models had an A at the end of the ECU S/N and that is a different map that works better than the early '08s. Old can be reflashed to new by a dealer. Read up and you'll see posts about it from back in '08 and '09. Note that for '08 models the ibeat tuning is limited (there is one fuel adjustment, not three) and you need to put the O2 sensor back on, use iBeat, and take the O2 sensor back off. PITA and lame.

what he said. sounds like you are running WAY lean. Simple iBeat richen up and you should be good to go with much better running and performance.
