    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Display reading "Fail"

During the most recent work on my 310, I did the zip-ty retention of the fuel pump, and installed the PCv w/ AutoTune.

Upon firing it up the first time since, the dash display is reading "fail", even though the bike runs fine. (better!)

The manual sez you have a fuel injection system malfunction if it reads "fail". Hmmm. runs fine.

Ideas?
 
It needs to be hooked into the I-Beat to determine what the failure code is. Something isnt right if "fail" is coming up on the dash.
 
It's not displaying "Sel 2 fail" is it? That is normal. Like Scotty mentioned if it is saying "fail" and staying stuck on that it needs to be hooked up to the iBeat software to see what the deal is.

No, it's not "Sel 2 fail". Just reads fail in all five modes. Essentially, that's all it reads. No mph, odo, anything.

Nearest iBeat is an hour away.
 
A) What type of info, exactly, will the iBeat reveal? A short circuit? A bad connection? Low fuel pressure?

B) Is there any way to 'reset' the display to normal w/o the iBeat hookup? -or will it always read 'fail' without it.

C) How can there be a fuel system malfunction causing the 'fail' message when the bike runs perfect? Is this just a fluke?

D) Could it have anything to do with the battery being disconnected when I made the disconnect/connection of the PCV/Autotune?
 
I have found 90% of the fail codes on the 09s have been related to poor/dirty connections. My 09 310 was spitting out an 02 sensor failure last weekend was running like crap. The funny part was that I dont even have the 02 sensor connected on my bike! My MAF sensor was all gunged up and causing the code to appear.

How did you get the MAF sensor code to go away? Do you click "clear" in when the iBeat software is connected?

The electrical connections to it or the sensor itself?

The MAQS on the throttle body that has the barometric pressure, TPS, and air temp sensors?

Is there a separate Mass Air Flow sensor?

Happened on my 450 once when it was very new but I only saw it for a second as it cleared itself. Funnily enough it came back just last Sunday and this time stayed on. I stopped and switched the ignition off and on which cured it - so far so good since then. Both times the bike still seemed to be running perfectly, which might tie in with it being a bad connection somewhere which is showing a fault that isn't actually there. If it is that then I guess you have a connection which has failed properly rather than just being a bit intermittent now and again. I'll be interested to see what you find.

The connector was all gungy. It was also causing a low manifold pressure code to come as well.

Cleaned it up, cleared the codes and the bike ran fine with no codes.

Nice! The errors went away.

With the iBeat the historical error codes can be cleared as well is my understanding.


Just to be clear - you are referring to the sensors on the throttle body, right?
 
Well as for me i have the fail sign too, i have check it with Ibeat and i also clean up the connector here is the code.

Low Value - 0640- input voltage from the water temperature sensor fell below its minimum possible value.
 
I think your going to have to get the wiring diagram out and check for shorts or opens on the 2 wires connected to the water sensor. One wire connects to the ECU sensors ground and the other goes directly to the ECU. The sensor ground wire maybe be splice with other sensor grounds in the wire harness, but I'm not sure. You're just going the have to trace it out.

There is a very slim possibility that the problem could be with the ECU's input, but that would be the last place to check.

could be a bad connection, but it also could be (my bet) the sensor has gone bad.
