• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Disc brake for '81 420

Husqvarna
A Class
First post here so sorry if posting wrong place.

About to buy a 1981 Husqvarna 420 automatic. Had a Yamaha TT500 but the heavy clutch and brakes were killing me so had to sell it. Gave up the whole classic cross idea till a buddy told me Husqvarna had a automatic and accidentally found one in Sweden I'll pick up soon. That solves problems for left arm.

But is there an easy way of converting to front disc brakes?

Actually thought about moving brake lever to left hand to even out the stress on arms (as using right arm for throttle). But not sure so smart when back on one of my other bikes...pulling clutch lever won't help a lot if need to emergency brake:)

Pingvin,
I'm 99% sure i have every thing you need except a front wheel, i believe i have an extra 85 fork leg,
caliper, front brake line with master cylinder. Let me know

Another way if You don't mind ruining the Vintage of your bike is to just swap the whole front end with a more modern bike. If You look at the picture of my bike its got a 99' KTM front end on it. Its pretty much a bolt on useing the KTM Triple Clamps. You can even use up side down Forks as well, I chose to keep the some what stock husky look.

Thanks for your replies. Picking up Husky on Sunday :)

Sounds like a good idea. Not sure you noticed that I live in Europe though, is that an issue shipping? Is it easy getting a front wheel, do I need an old one or are there new ones available?

A new front end could be pushing my luck as plan to start in some classic enduro races. Mostly they're not too strict if it looks like it's from the right era.

EDIT: Realize it doesn't say anything about where I live under avatar. Live in Norway but a buddy import classic cross bikes from US (you'll get 6.000USD for a late seventies XT or TT500 with plates over here). Anyway, might be possible getting the parts in one of his containers.

Any 1984 & up CR has the disc brake, 1986 & up Enduro's has a disc too, so finding front wheel shouldn't be hard to find.
I've got all the rest of the parts , other then the wheel should you need them, but like you said shipping maybe a pain.

OK, thanks. Will check what can find in Sweden, after all live only 2hrs from Swedish border. Found a dealer that thought he had what i needed but he claims my bike got 35mm while he's got 40mm fork legs. Will check that when pick up on Sunday.

I have a after market disk brake conversion on my 1982 1/2 500 cr that I want to get rid of and go back to what came on the bike. I can post some pictures if anybody is interested. It has a front wheel, axel, spacers, rotor, and caliper. it is still mounted on the bike and next month I'm starting a restore on the bike.

..know this is an old post but I'll throw it out there anyway just in case .. So where did you get your aftermarket front wheel disc setup? and if it's still available how much are you selling this for?

I went to a dirt bike junk yard and purchased a later disc brake front end complete with rim and brakes with tubes and neck and installed it on my '83 250 c&r.

Sorry for the late reply. The front disk setup came with the bike. I will let it go for 60 + shipping. Would you like me to send you some pictures?
