• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

DC plastics XC500 stuff report

Motosportz, what are you using for a headlight? I am looking for something that will allow the stock speedo to be mounted behind it.

Actually not sure where I got that, I had 2 of them laying around here. I think there some vintage Acrbis stuff. Straps work fine for conventional forks and lots of room behind it for cables etc...

with a modern right side up fork it wont look too out of place and will take care of the brake issue..i bet the kx500 front will still be plush as well..

It will fit. I put a 1988 KX250 front end onto my 78 ML frame and all I had to get was an All Ballz bearing that has a 30mm ID and fits in the stock Husqvarna bearing race. The Husqvarna neck is within .020" of the KX neck and the Husqvarna stock bearing works in the 25mm top of the stem

Think so? I spoke with all balls today and it sounded way off. Was going to give it a go this afternoon but sounded way to far off. More info please. So you just need to replace the bottom bearing on the KX stem and use the KX stem? Thanks.

If I can find the package it came in I will get you the number for it. They do not support anything to speak of for Husqvarna front ends , this was my own research and conniving. It was a 48mm OD 30mm ID, 12 or 14mm high or something in that neighborhood. The bearing went into and matched the Husqvarna race in the bottom of the stem. So easy it is almost criminal:)

The cool part about the KX forks is the compression damping has several clicks of adjustment at the bottom of the fork legs

husky back brake lever designed by john deere.....or was it stolen from the drivers compartment of a T-34 Tank?

I found the package for the All Balls kit I used the lower bearing from. The kit is #22-1011 and is upper and lower bearings to convert the ball and cones to taper rollers. The bearing for the lower is 99-3512-5 and is 50mmOD,30mm ID, 14.25mm High. If you need a lower height they also have 99-3515-5 =48-30-12 and 99-3539-5 =50-30-13. The bearing 99-3515-5 will fit and match the race in Husqvarna stem. These 99- numbers are for individual bearing so you do not need to purchase the kit like I did but I got it on eBay significantly cheaper than normally sold for

awesome info, thanks.

Why not put an '85-up conventional 40mm Husky fork on it if you want a disc brake? It will look much more "correct" than an upside down fork or that Kawi fork.

Just thought I would report on this stuff for anyone interested. I wanted to freshen up my bike but its a rider so went with the inexpensive stuff. I got side panels, stickers and tank stickers as well. The side panels fit fine. You have to drill a few holes. The stickers they provide are very high quality, thick and super sticky adhesive. The tank stickers are really cool as they cover the whole side of the tank and up around the top. Nice protection and coverage. Not original but again was just looking to freshen it up. Pretty happy with the cost and quality / results.

I really would like to ride that, it just looks fun! I bet it goes everywhere and can do anything.

are you going to get a kickstand sometime? i know some guys dont really care about em and some have to have em

I have just welded kickstand brackets onto two swingarms recently for machines I intend to keep. To me a bike without a sidestand is a PITA

The KX front end almost looks like it belongs there. Looks nice and you will love the preload adjustment in the caps and compression damping adjustment at the bottom of the legs.

I have not decided what do do with the 2 KX front ends I have but 1 set is on a tentative project right now and the other set is missing some expensive pieces
