  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Damper post with IMS tank?

fire1998

Husqvarna
AA Class
I know it has been talked about before but havn't been able to find the thread. I just bought an 09 TCX 250. It comes with a spare IMS tank. Is there any way to run a Scotts damper yet. I have a Scotts on my WR 250 and want to just move it from bike to bike.
Thanks

Contact BRP, if it is a Scotts damper they have the post you need. I have one on my 09 txc with a stock tank (above the bar mount)I do believe it will fit with the IMS. I moved mine from a 03 KTM 525 all I needed was the new post and the billet top clamp for the handlebar.

Sorry guys,
George at Up-tite and I were going to do a installation on my 08 TE450 a couple of weeks ago but time didn’t permit as he is real busy and so am I. If all works out we will get together in two weeks and do the install and photo shoot unless he has done it with another victim. This will be the Up-tite under bar kit (Scotts Damper) that George designed and will be selling. It should work on all models that share the IMS Tank and frame geometry. I am not sure of the models but I believe the TE and TCX are alike. Please verify for yourself before throwing me in front of the bus.

Can you take pictures? Many, many people would love to see it!

Yep, But now I have stock tank back on it. after this weekends ride I'll set the tank on it and snap a couple pics..

Just spoke with BRP and they assured me that their undermount kit will work with an IMS tank. I am going to order one tomorrow and I'll let you know.

GPR has a mount also. I am on my 3rd IMS tank and I can tell you that the GPR mount would not work with my first 2 tanks (without modification), but will work with the tank I currently have.

Someone on here tried one of the GPR mounts, I think it was PALMER84ONE, and ended up sending it back because he couldn't get it to work. I had even posted some pics of one mounted up, but I don't know where that post is. Either that or I am just suffering from a "senior moment" because I can't find any of that info anywhere.:excuseme:

I have not seen one of the BRP mounts, but would like to. I got BRP and GPR confused (big shock there).

Found it, had me worried though.

I think it is like post 36.

So PALMER when you tried the GPR setup, if you had enough room in front of your tank for the post clamp, do you think it could be made to work with Kelly's damper?

How about George's post clamp, any chance it could be easily made to work with a Motosport's damper instead of the Scott's it is designed for? Does anyone have any idea what it would take to make it work (George)?

Yes, the BRP did not work on my bike, 08 TE450/black/2008 purchase, zero tank defects and rounding the 4,000 mile mark with spills and thrills.
As you can see, my tank is real forward compared to other tanks I have seen. Will Up-tite work with Motosportz? I am willing to let a test run be preformed if anyone would like to supply the Damper. I have seen the mount that George has and I am still going to try and make it work on this tank. It is definitely thinner than the BRP one I had. IMS tanks are great tanks but more room could have been thought of in front for Dampers.
BRP photo attached.

When are you going to attempt the install on the uptite clamp? Will it help you if I send you my motosportz mount and damper. If you already have it apart for installing the other mount, it should only take a few minutes to see what would be needed with the motosportz damper. Any way if you want to check it out I will ship you my damper and mount. Just let me know. Ken

One thing I noticed about the IMS tank is that if you leave the gas in the tank, the tank will stretch to the point where it is touching the post clamp. When I'm running the IMS tank I will drain all the gas out between rides..

I am hoping to do this the week before Christmas if George can fit me in. I'll PM you with the info if we can get it done.

My tank has always been this close to the head. I am thinking it may need mods for anything (Damper) to work. Like I said, "the tanks very in the front on the ones I have seen." Mine is extra close. It's the luck of the mold if you get one that is furter away. I am afraid that my tank is going to ride up in the back once its forced behind the head bracket, we shall see.

Yea I know what you mean..when my tank stretchs I have to use a pry bar to get it back on the rear two posts..

thats how all the tank I have seen fit to including mine. zero room for a mount. That's what i wanted to see pix. Really, what was IMS thinking adding that useless intrusion, they know off road riders who buy big tanks usually run dampers. :censored:

- Most frame clamp post/pin setups will work. I have guys running Scotts posts on their CRF's / KXF's so they can run my damper.
