• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

From Tim Morton on FB:

"Our Husky is out. Lack of oil & water after hole in case and water pump ripped off. Bill arrived (healthy but beyond tired) into camp at 4AM, his bike still in dunes (will be picked up by helicopter today).
Niles, Jonah, and I stayed up to about 1AM waiting for him and ready to swap his engine if needed. Niles fell asleep in a chair, Jonah grabbed a tent, I figured the dirty & oily shop mat was good enough. Woke up at 5 and there's Bill in his gear asleep in the dirt."

Just heard Cody is out :banghead:

009 - Cody withdraws...

American Quinn Cody, assisted after a fall by Juan Pedrero, soon met up with one of the medical helicopters, whose team diagnosed a suspected fracture of the collar bone and head injury. His condition is not alarming, but nevertheless he has had to withdraw from the race.

Eurosport coverage on now

Edit:

They had video coverage of both Quin's & Barreda's crash. Both looked pretty brutal. Barreda was able to continue & ride to the finish

Dakar 2012, Stage 3
San Rafael - San Juan
563 km in total, 270 km special test

Hell of stones followed by podium!

Paulo Goncalves lived up to his promise and attacked at today´s stage three of the Dakar 2012. The Portuguese member of the Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain finished third during an extremely difficult Andes stage from San Rafael to San Juan. Goncalves improved dramatically to seventh place in the standings.

It was a race day like hardly ever before in Dakar history. Some at the bivouac even called it "Erzberg"-like.
The course offered extreme stone passages and navigation was tricky also. Coming from 21st position, Paulo Goncalves´ error-free ride was rewarded with a podium result and a leap into the top ten.

Joan Barreda also wanted to fire a warning. The Spaniard followed race leader Marc Coma in the opening minutes, but crashed at Km 20 and had to fight back with a damaged navigation device. Nevertheless he managed to re-join the title holder. But bad luck happened again a few kilometres from the finish. Barreda´s chain jumped off and jammed the drivetrain. It took him a while to fix the problem, the team newcomer eventually lost 41 minutes.

Zé Hélio meanwhile rode a solid race and ended the day near the Top 20. "I never experienced a day like this,"
the Brazilian said. "It was the most extreme and technical stuff I´ve ever ridden." While Jose Manuel Pellicer came home inside the Top 30, Ike Klaumann crashed and injured himself. The race is over for the likeable Brazilian.

Wednesday´s programme is expected to be difficult and long again. The total distance from San Juan to Chilecito is over 700 km, 326 of them being a special test. The scenic Rioja canyons will demand good navigational skills.

1. Cyril Despres (FRA) KTM, 3:48:38 Std
2. Frans Verhoeven (NEL) Sherco, 8:37 min behind 3. Paulo Goncalves (POR) Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain, 8:39 4. Helder Rodrigues (POR) Yamaha, 10:03 5. Alain Duclos (FRA) Aprilia, 11:12 22. Zé Hélio (BRA) Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain, 29:15 30. Jose Manuel Pellicer (SPA) Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain, 33:15 34. Joan Barreda (SPA) Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain, 41:24

Here's a clip of Quins crash. Damn it was brutal, worse than I initially thought, so glad he's not hurt worse.

Heal well Quin, you had them in your sight's.

Here's Barreda's just before Quin's @ the 50 second mark

http://www.rtve.es/deportes/2012010...s-tercera-etapa-respecto-despres/486997.shtml

These guys are real warriors. A humbling reminder of what can happen to any race competitor.

Both crashes were ugly, ESP that endo for Quins... Looked like he got a huge rear end buck ... Broke nose probably for Quins :( ....

Those bikes gotta be seriously front end \ top heavy ... They have alot of balls riding a bike like that at those speeds also ....

It was heart warming to see #5 Juan Pedrero Garcia, the water carrier for Coma stop so quick to help Quin.. He was pretty shaken up by the whole thing, he must have been about 50m back when it happened.

Goncalves almost at the end.
Doesn't look good for Barreda, hope it's an tracking issue, still at WP1

Dang! Cody's crash was brutal. Hope he heals up quickly. Ugghhh that one gives me chills.
On a positive note 7602 rider Ned Suisse is now up to 48th overall. :applause:
