  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc cylinder inter changeability

hello, I believe I read all the husky 125 engines are the same basic unit, from 1997 to 2012? I've found a used cylinder from a 2008 cr 125, but I don't know if it will be any different from my 2005 wre, neither does the seller. The first picture is my current cylinder, the second is a shot of the cylinder for sale. If anyone knows if it will be useable in my bike, including the positioning of the powervalve connector, please let me know, internet searches have yet to determine thishusky cylinder.jpghusqvarna cylinder 2.JPG

Just looking at the pic of the 08 cylinder it looks like it has been seized. Kind of hard to tell but it sure looks like piston metal transfer above the exhaust port.

yeah in the description it says something near the exhaust port has a little damage but would still be ok to use, I was hoping to get it honed and then put it in, the difficulty is seeing if there damage is too much and needs replating or not, here's the link, you can see some of the other pictures of the inside http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HUSQVARNA...69?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f371bf531 assuming it is only minimal damage, once fitted with a new piston, would I need to change any jetting or carb changes to compensate for the port differences?

If it has some alum transfer to the bore, first try to scrape it off with pocket knife.
Then brush on some meratic acid this will eat off the alum.
Then can use bottle brush ball hone to finish off.
Can't hone out alum with hone for niksil as it ruins the diamond stones, just saying as shops who have diamond hones just say it can't be done.
Don't cheat if you can feel ANYTHING with finger nail have it replated.

Umm i have to add ive ran cylinders on a budget and altho its bad i know i have run engines with nikasil peeling off and stripped in more than two places, when it seized i just took a file to it and swapped rings.. Very bad i do know but it can and has been done.
Gazmafaz have you looked into replating services i and severl mates have used poeton in gloucester very sucsessfully not too shabby with price too.

I have looked and therre's one called pjme who do it, but first I'm going to take ot the the two stroke garage who mot it and ask them if they think it needs doing, not going for that other cylinder now, I think the cost of replating my current one would be cheaper than buying that other one and find out it really does need replating done on top

oh btw, currently running sprockets 48 rear 14 tooth, got a new renthal 51 13 now, am I going to be wheelying uncontrollably now? I have a tight spot in my chain so couldn't get a good middle ground

Who knows but im running same 14/49 on my 360 thought that may be a little high for 125 tbh.
Tight spot in your chain? Replace it.
What exaxtly is tge issue with your current cylinder, did it seize? Or
You just doing piston n rings cus of hours?
Personally i would follow wallybeans mention that tve portings different the whole rev range will be kicked up a notch.

we will see, hopefully my sprocket will be ready later so I can get it after work. No actual issue with cylinder atm apart from the issue of powervalve cleaning, I just thought it would be easier to have a spare cylinder ready with a new piston to go straight on rather than having the bike off the road but I'm going to take it off, clean valves, take it to the garage and ask them to measure it and tell me if it needs a replate or just hone, then ask what piston size it needs then I can order one to fit, I would have gone for that cr barrel but the chain and sprocket kit wasn't that cheap
