    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

cylinder head cover - oil leak

after sorting my valve cover leak i have now realised the cylinder head cover is also leaking slightly. i'm thinking of rather than removing the cover and using some silicone gasket on it i might just smear the silicone gasket across the join that's leaking. reckon that'll work? i'm getting bored of taking my rads off...
 
get it real clean and smear away...I should work.

check your cam chain tensioner and see if the cam chain needs replacing first. That job requires removal of the valve cover anywhay.
 
that's a good call fella, although i think i will hand it over to get the cam chain done when it's time. def worth the check before dismantling anything though.
 
Apart from the Nightmare of removing the Springs attached to the exhaust!

Near on impossible without a spring tool to do it.

My bike weeps a bit of oil from the front above the exhaust manifolds, I will one day get round to stripping the Rads off and taking a closer look.
 
pliers and a bit of elbow grease will get those off fella ;) but yeah much easier with a spring tool. can make your own with a wire coat hanger.

your weep sounds like mine. if it's not the valve cover it's probably the cylinder head seal. do both if you're not sure as it'll save you doing it twice! i used silicone gasket with the paper gasket on the valve cover and seems to have done the job :)

Most likely the valve cover...they all do that.

I held my leak at bay with a cleaning and a smear of silicone until I changed the cam chain.
 
I had a pretty good leak that got my right boot wet after a twisty mountain ride. Did the valve clearance checks and applied (I believe the brand is Permatex) "Right Stuff"rtv on the Camshaft/head cover and the bolt threads. My valve covers didn't need replacing so I just put some rtv on those bolt threads too. No leaks at all now. Pulling the radiators does get old but probably with a few bungee cords and an extra person you could work the Camshaft/head cover off without removing the rads. Also, pulling exhaust hangars, use safety wire folded up to pull the springs off. Flexible and makes it way easier with all the clearance. Oh and while you have the camshaft/head cover off you could use a torque wrench and make sure the head bolts are up to spec.
 
Ive just spent time trying to fix an oil leak i think was coming from the rocker cover of my 08 610.
I will have to cover some miles before im sure its fixed,
I took the rocker cover off and there was no gasket OR sealant, metal to metal, thats crap!
I re-fitted the rocker cover with instant gasket and the inspection covers without the paper gaskets, just instant gasket, with some around the heads of the bolts aswell. Water pump fitted with paper gasket and instant gasket, overkill.
I hope ive got a dry, leak free engine now.
The cam lobes and rockers looked good with about 6k miles on the clock.
