  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Cracked 09 TC450 Frame!?!?

Hi all,

I just purchased a used TC450 this winter (MN winter) from a a Husky dealer in Minnesota. It was the owners Husky that he raced with, the bike looked great but having 3 feet of snow outside I couldnt ride the bike and it really looked good. But as the summer came and I finally pulled the cover from it I noticed some serious cracks in the frame. There is no *#&ken way that this guy could not have known of it!. It is not just one crack, there is a bunch and I do not think that the bike is safe. Is this a common thing with the TC's and being a 09 - what can a guy do?. I can for sure weld (professionally) it and make it safer....any thoughts??

Bummer! You purchased it from the owner of the dealership? How much time has passed since you bought it? I would take it by the dealership and show them what you found. You'll have to do a major tear down and check the entire frame out very closely to see what else you might find. I would think the bike must have taken a major hit to the frame to cause that.

Wow! That is serious! I would for sure contact the seller. If it's the dealership they will probably make it right. If it's the owner selling a bike on the side, well, can't hurt to let him know and he should make it right, IMO.

I'm not into MX but I don't know any Husky dealer in MN that can ride a bike hard enough to crack that frame. Might be wrong, but I suspect it might have been a local pro's bike, who were sponsored and riding Huskys at that time. Maybe it was the pro's bike, then the dealership owner rode it himself, then sold it to you. Just a guess but I'd bet that's what happened. Now that I think about it, I think this pro raced the Huskys in local district races and a Japanese brand in the nationals. Someone into the MN MX scene would know for sure.

That sounds about right. I do know that it was the owners son bike (co-owner) and he raced in the North Dakota and MN motocrosses. He is not a young guy so as you said, how hard can you really ride a Husky or any bike for that matter. I have been riding all my life and never cracked a frame.......cracked my bones though. I will phone them today. Thanks for the input

maybe 4 months, it was in the middle of the winter in Minnesota. You are right, it will take some major efforts to do a tear down and fix/replace the the frame. Pretty bad sport from the dealer though....I dont know about you but I have ridden all my life and I do feel comfortable hitting the trails in Bend Oregon at 60mp/h.
 
dont know why you couldnt have it welded up, bet the dealer will have it welded up for you. That bike took some major hit, the forks ok? back shock?
frame bent anywhere? Im no expert but looks like impact damage as oposed to stress cracks. I would cut the dealer some slack, give em a chance to make it right.
cant believe a dealer would sell it as is, knowing it was cracked like that.

Post a follow up, let us know the out come.

If the dealer doesn't help you out, I will help to smear their name all over the local MN racing scene.
 
I bet if you brought it to the dealer he would get it welded for you. I am sure any dealer that would have known it was cracked they would have had it fixed. Also what would dealer smearing get you.
 
If I bought a 2 year old bike that the owner raced - I would expect he inspects/fixes the stuff before he sells it... If not, then it better be 1/2 price...

That's Heinen's for you, unfortunately they are Ebay masters and you get what you pay for and give good retailers a bad name trying to do commerce over the phone or internet.

Welding it with that many cracks is not a good option in my mind, no integrity in that frame and why they changed frame manufacturers in '10

If the bike came from Heinens, the owner did not race it but rather a sponsored rider. I would contact them and see what they will do to assist with the issue. From my experiences I'd find it very difficult to believe they knew about this issue and sold the bike. I also doubt the owner inspects every bike, snowmobile, pwc and atv they sell.

Where exactly is the frame cracked and have you even tried to contact them?

So best case scenerio the buyer was lied to when he bought the bike... ;)

This is BS.
 
Too bad on UR bike but there are not many (if any) reports of broken \ cracked frames here on this site or any other Husky site that I know of ...
Now, sometimes reports such as this are not given due to what ever reasons but it most likely is not a common case ..

It seems reasonable to think this bike was ridden very hard , maybe crashed , jumped big big , maybe on a track or some other area... maybe the desert at high speed...

I'd contact the seller and see what they say and then, depending on UR riding skills and level, I'd get it welded and watch it closely...
 
i believe that the frames were upgrades, with thicker tubing, and more robust gusseting in 2010....... Hope you get it sorted out. let us know what goes down at the dealer.

Based on what the OP has mentioned so far and knowing about the dealership and owner, I know first hand there are many parts of this story that don't add up. The owner doesn't race MX nor does he have a son old enough to run/ride any bike of this caliber. The dealership has also went out of their way to ensure customers are happy from my experiences. I'm wondering if the bike was being sold at the dealership on consignment by another owner??

This does not add up and your keyboard bravery is laughable at best.

The OP still hasn't posted exactly where the damage is on the frame nor whether he has contacted the dealer about the issue.
