  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Crack in Coolant Expansion Bottle

Bikerdad

Husqvarna
C Class
Well while cleaning/checking the bike (2010 TE 450) over from the weekend ride I found a crack in the coolant bottle just above where the hose connects to the bottle. You could only see a little coolant in it before (a 1/2 inch perhaps) but now its empty. I checked the radiator and I can just see the top of the matrix is uncovered so hopefully no harm done. Called dealer and they need me to take the bike back in so they can order the part and replace it under warranty. The bottle is not in stack so who knows how long the part will take.

This is not the start I was hoping for:cry:

Thats rough. As long as the dealer dose not try and keep your bike until the new coolant recovery bottle arrives you shouldn't be out any riding. The only function of the bottle is to do just that, recover coolant. Having the bottle isn't going to make the bike run any hotter or cooler, it's just going to allow any coolant boiled from the radiator to condense and later be recovered. If your really worried about it temporarily zip-ty a red bull can behind the radiator and run a shorter hose to it.

I would not want to park the bike over this if the wait was over 3-4 days ...... Why not put some glue on the crack \ use the red bull can idea and keep riding ?

i have 09 te450 same bottle i took mine of and just run the hose down like the tc 450 mx this bottle is for adr only and have never had a problem its been of 8mts now and still use the same rad cap

True... You don't really need the catch can unless the bike is run hot and overheats and spits juice into the can for saving ... I have ran mine several times with the can cracked and just made sure I did not overheat the bike on the trails ...

Don't park that bike ;)

I don't want to park the bike for long either. If they can't replace it fast I will just patch the tank and see if it holds. It is pretty hot here in AZ just now and it could overheat fairly often I suspect. will fill the tank though just in case even if dealer says its not needed.

Filing the coolant recovery tank is a must with these huskies. The plastic the bottles are made from isn't the best for the application. It petty common for hot steam entering empty recovery bottles to actually melt a hole in them! They need to be filled with coolant to absorb heat and pressure from in coming hot steam!

Apparently... Mine was empty I think when it blew out and the bike was very hot as I was stuck in some mud riding with a worn out enduro rear tire ... :(

After I had drained my overflow tank by taking the hose off. I found that it had leaked after reinstalling the hose. I had tugged and pushed a bit on the nozzel to get the clamp and hose back on. I had also remembered that on a ride I had ended up with a 2" diameter branch that was about 2 feet long Jambed in between the bottle and the throttle body causeing some stress on the tank. Upon inspection I thought I saw a crack on the seam near the nozzel and coolant was there too. I took it out and cleaned it. I could not get it to leak in the sink.

Here's what I found- it was not cracked or damaged. BUT the Nozzel that you put the hose on had a rough seam with plastic flairing out from the seam. I lightly sanded the seam so it was not rough and reinstalled. So now the hose could seal well, the leak was just due to the seam or plastic mold. NO issues since. (just thought it was worth mentioning)

Thanks for the info. I think my issue was the same as yours and the issue was the seam. I cleaned it up, topped up coolant in the rad and bottle and it seems to be leak free. Will have a longer ride at the weekend and we will see for sure.
