• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Have a 07 TE 250 w/ athena 300 kit.. / Rekluse and LHRB. So I'm making up for my lack of skill with technology.

Ran across a Clean 04 125 with what looks like low hours... I want somthing lighter and the price seems to be right... (already in a minor land war with the wife over this..) Told her it will come in handy when my little buddy gets into his teens..

Questions:

Will this bike haul my 200 + lb butt around ok ? Or should I hold out for a TXC 250 in the next couple of years ?

How much bottom end do these things really have ? I heard the earlier 125's had more than the current ones..

Bog ? I've read Kelly's earlier posts and heard about this and Seen Wally's experience... Is this easy to sort out ?

mechanical... it looks clean and am told by the dealer maybe not even 10 hours on it.. only driven to church on sundays ;) No scuffs at all on the motor some on the frame.. what are potential problems or issues with these bikes..

I know a WR 125 would be better as far as low end.. but think a flywheel would help...

I'm also wondering about "hit" on a CR 125 .. I know it's a motocross spec bike but I've heard they are excellent woods bikes..
 
I had 2 04 CR125's and now the 09 WR125. The 04 CR's were rippers but mostly a top end motor. Not much down low and then a ripping top end. The Doma pipe is the ticket on all the husky 125's but hard to get. I am 210 without gear and haul a lot of gear. No issues with power. The 09, now that i have it sorted has a much better motor IMHO. Very lugable especially on flatter ground and will climb anything. It rips on top as hard as the 04 CR. I have ridden an 06 and an 07 WR125 and did not like them as much as they were soft all over. EZer to ride than my 04 CR but lacked a lot of overall HP when you want to get it on. The 09 to me is the best of both when sorted. Lugs great, rips great. The 04's have a better tank setup and the eurgos are nice. The 04 forks kinda suck. The motor could be massaged to be EZer to ride. A pipe and Walts springs I bet you could make it do whatever you need. Yes, it will always be a 125 but that can actually be a very good thing. Nothing turns like the 125's especially the new ones with the new frame and forks. Ridiculous and hands down the best turning bikes i have ridden period. I would say go for it. It's not typically a bike you can just jump on and love. Many do but some struggle a little because it does take a different approach if you have not ridden a 125 much. If your doing the steep stuff in Idaho you will want to gear it way down. I am at 13/52 and it is just barely low enough for the real steep stuff. Your not going to win any races up hill but it will get to the top, sometimes when other bikes can't. You will pass everyone on flatter stuff and down hills though. As good as my new 2010 TXC250 is I have a hard time choosing between these bikes when it is time to go. They are cheap, more fun than a barrel of monkeys and improve your skills. Go get it.

people always stand around and marvel at the tiny motor. And then are very impressed by the performance / ability. I ride mine with 250/300 2st and 450 4st and have no issues staying right in the position i always do on my 250.

I am about the same weight and my wr 125 pulls me fine,it will have no problem pulling your weight,just hang on!! once the bike comes on the power it takes off like a rocket

I usually make it down to Nampa to ride the Owyhee's a couple of times each winter. Probably won't make it until mid-February this year but you are welcome to take my 144 for a spin and see how you like it.

sounds good ! Just PM me I'd love to come along.. know it fairly well. BTW the wifes from Columbia Falls/ Kallispell and the Mom in law is in Missoula and I've been seriously thinking of coming up that way to ride one of these days... Don't know the areas that well, have you ridden around any of these places ?

I am in Hamilton just south of Missoula. There is some great riding here even though the enviro nazis have closed down all but 180 miles of trails in the Bitterroot. :banghead: When I was growing up there were more than 1500 miles of forest service trails and that was with the entire western third of the county being part of the Bitterroot/Selway wilderness area(Largest in the lower 48). When you make a trip up to Kalispell take 93 instead of 95 and you go through some truly fantastic country and right through Hamilton. Keep me informed and we can take a fun ride on your way north. Kalispell is about 3 hours north of me and it is a cool drive once you get on the other side of Missoula.

Thanks Wally... will do.. Be sure you PM me when your in the area... I can out and ride... Do you normally ride out of Rabbit / Hemmingway ?etc..
