  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Couple of problems with 13 TXC310

What size battery are you guys running in your 310? I bought a 2.5 amp Turntech battery and bike will not turn over over when hot. Kicking bike in the middle of a 99 degree day sucks! Bike starts fine when cold. Bike has all upgraded starting gears etc.. Bike has roughly 4 hours on it. I have same battery in my WR290f and habe no problems. Also I laid bike over in a corner and gascap came off! It looks like cap is on but a little crooked. Threads look good. Is there a better cap out there?
Thanks

My 13 310 was doing the same. I had the new gears put in, still the same when got hot. Put a new starter in and it has worked good so far. I raced it this past Sunday and stalled a few times while hot and it fired over. Some times, if you kick while hitting the starter, it fires right up. This should not be necessary, but I think helping it to TDC helps sometimes. Not sure about the gas cap, I am looking to get an oversize tank myself.

The gas cap sounds like it was just not on correctly but as far as the battery goes I have heard from quite a few people that their bikes have trouble turning over with the electric start. I have already replaced my battery the day I got it home because it died on the way home (yea go figure). The dealer had me bring it back the next day and they put a new battery (stock replacement) in that day and I haven't had an issue since. It has some difficulty starting in gear but that's all. It still fires though.

I have a 2 year old 5ah Turntech battery in my 2013 TXC310R and it starts instantly hot or cold. Yesterday I clutched it up a long hillclimb while I walked beside it after I fell off (I'm short), and it started flawlessly even though it was HOT. Mine has about 6 hours on it.

We had to do the starter gears after about 6 hours of running, but since then it has been fine, e starts everytime on stock battery.

Yes, this fixed my 310's starting problem. Battery was fine, but wouldn't start.
But I did replace the battery with a EarthX battery. Only 3 lbs and starts great.
EarthX batteries are the best. The new shells are lighter than carbon fiber and contain charging circuits which do not require special battery chargers. New Ex's are 1.3lbs (0.6kg). :)

Same problems for me too, on a brand-new te 310 '13. They did the starter motor and reflash and that fixed the starting problems except when it gets really hot like when you're hammering the clutch in technical stuff. Now they just did the starter gears and I haven't had the chance to ride it somewhere yet where I can really test it out. One thing though: it now spins over WAY faster when you hit the e-start. Hopefully this will solve it.

If they are too tight, compression loss when hot will make starting difficult. Have you had the Leo Vince map loaded?

Hi Tinken, I have a 2013 TXC 310 and have not heard of the Leo Vince Map being loaded. Can you tell us more?

It is the open exhaust racing map that can be loaded into your MY13 310R ecu. Along with the power up plug in place, it will allow your 310 to run and have the power it was intended to have. Your local dealer or race shop should be able to load these maps for you.

More power...wow! Raced bike this weekend and at no time was I wishing for more power. I thought the motor was perfect. Who needs a 450 unless your a Pro. Don't know if this is normal or not but had a lot of decel backfiring in the high speed sections. Will the new map take care of that?

Yes. The 310 is a great bike and makes good power. Should handle most every situation you throw at it. But it by no means replaces a 449/511.

Personally I don't think a 2.5 amp Battery is enough on a 310 Husky. The Worm Drive Starter system is at best adequate !
It seems they need a lot of power to get them spinning !
How does the bike start with the standard battery ?

Regarding the ECU Maps , to my knowledge there are three in a TE, and two in a TXC.
You should not need to reflash the TXC, unless you fit an aftermarket "open" Exhaust.
Then I would agree with running the "Leo Open Map", otherwise bike should be good with standard Map.

We have had some issues with "Idle" with the Leo Map, but have resolved things now, and are very happy with the 310 !

The Ex battery is only 5 oz. heavier than the TurnTech and 12 amp.

I fixed two 310R's this week, one of which HNA/Malcolm Smith was unable to repair. Both had lean air fuel mixture ratios which caused the famous deceleration popping a stalling caused by emission control. You need to remove the stock air filter cage and replace it with an open cage. Remove the catalytic converter from the stock exhaust. And load the Leo Vince open exhaust map set. This will power up the bike to a smooth ride-able performance. Lift the gas tank and add the power up plug to go to race map #2.

Yes, the 12a EX model is light and cranks well in cold weather. Seems to give all available current with every start, no fade off.
Sure beats the old lead acid battery type.

What is the EX battery? Turntech is sending me a 5 amp battery to see if this cures problem. Are you talking about the TE models above? Thought R's were unplugged and raceready. I did add an FMF powercore muffler I had sitting around off my 10 TC250. Will this cause bike to run lean? Should I be concerned about the decel popping?

Having owned both models now.......Ill take the 13 310 over the 449 for my kind of riding. Feels much more agile and lighter. Motor thru the first few gears doesnt feel like it gives up much. Yes 4th thru 6 the 449 will win. I have an 09TXC 450 if I fee the need, for speed. Ill be shipping the 450 suspenders to Ty tomorrow for his magic for Vegas to Reno.
