  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Couple 310 ?'s

First off I am riding a 2011 WR250 and really like it. Except for a couple things. And looking at the 310 it might solve a couple of them. First how much better is the 310 than the WR250 on the road sections with the extra gear ? I do some Dual sport rides, some enduros, and some trail riding and I really need to be able to cruise faster on the roads without revving the piss out of the WR. Most of my riding buddies have 6 speed bikes and they run off and leave me on the road sections. Second what is the difference in the 310 models? If I got the one with signals already on it would it still be good for hare scrambles and eunduros? Really cant afford to have both, so I thought the 310 would cover more of my needs.

I can't speak for the new 310's, but I do have an 09 and the gear box on that on it is real close. When I run it on the street it is easy to pull away from a stop in 2nd an sometimes 3rd and it is revving high at 50. It will go faster just not for long periods. I think they are great in the woods but just my opinion.

I'd keep the WR if it were me. If you were in AK I'd trade you my 310 for your 250, if that tells you anything. Wonder if you could put a 300 kit on it and get enough power gain to drop a couple teeth on the rear? That might get you the top end you are looking for while not sacrificing too much, if any, on the bottom.

I hav a '12 TE 310 and rode it a few times with the stock 40 on the back....not fun but easy hi way revs at 55-60 with it's narrow ratio gearbox.

Put a 45 rear on it and much better (also now has a Rekluse) and fun. Still reasonable cruise at 60 (7000). My Beta 350RS with the same 13/45 gearing will cruise 60 @ 6000 with it's wide ratio 6 speed.

I rode my 02 WR 250 for 8 years - did a couple of top ends and a few clutch cables - bulletproof! I now have a 12 TXC 310 and just getting used to it. I went through the same stuff with the 5 speed - but I don't care about the road sections. If you do go with the 310 get the TXC - already set up for what you do - except suspension.

Thanks for the replies, I read some comparisons and reviews online and did see a lot of comments that even though it is a 6 speed it doesnt have the "road gear" I am thinking of. I do like the easy maintanence and cheap cost of owning a 2 stroke, which is why I bought the WR in the first place. I guess no matter what you buy there is always something that you would like to change.

I have a 2012 310te and have made a few changes to make it a better dirt bike: 50 tooth rear, ditched the bulky rear signals and under fender in favor of flush mounted LEDS and added a pair of integrated hand guard signals up front. I like the bike, but it is a dirt bike with a plate. Fine by me, but in hindsight I would probably go with the txc and trailer it given that I have been avoiding the roads. Or, I might have gotten the larger TE, which is probably a bit better on the tarmac if I really wanted a true dual sport bike.
