  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Counter shaft sprocket removal.

Throttle on

Husqvarna
A Class
I am having some difficulty removing my counter shaft sprocket on a 2015 fe 501s with about 4000 miles. This is the first time I have attempted to remove the bolt holding the sprocket. It is very reluctant to turn. It feels like it is not going to come out without breaking or pulling the threads. I got the bolt to turn counter clockwise a few turns. It just does not feel right to me. Anyone have any input on this? Does this sound normal? I would appreciate any input from anyone with knowledge of these bikes. My dealership is closed today. I was hoping to swap out my sprockets and chain today.

Ktm uses a ridiculous amount of loctite on that bolt. Get the bike nice and warm and then hit it with a 3/8 impact. Itll come out, I promise. We always clean the threads on both before reassembly

And it's a standard thread direction (lefty loosie)...don't make the mistake of thinking it's a reverse thread as it's a PITA to try and remove that bolt once someone attacks it with an impact wrench thinking it's a reverse thread!!
Put a bit of heat on and use an impact gun, if you don't have one, a breaker bar and long pipe for leverage.

Thanks! I actually figured this out this morning over a cup of coffee I just sat and stared at the bike and realized it was time to break out the heat gun. I noticed in my owner's manual mention of using high-strength Loctite on this Bolt under the engine torque specifications page this led me in the right direction. I just reassembled my bike with a brand new sprocket, thrust washer and chain.I cleaned the old thread locker out. Pb blaster melted it nicely. I replied red locktight lightly greased the splines and used my torque wrench to install the bolt. Thanks I was in a bit of a panic over this yesterday morning at the thought of needing a new countershaft
