  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Could an '11 TE 250 suite me?

Your gearing may be a little different than my bike but I moved up to a 14T FS ... it opened the bike up alot for the roads ... Not really a DS machine but not so much shifting ...

Sweet! And I think you will like it very much if you realize you can't count on a tiny twist of the throttle for torque at low speeds and low RPMs like the 450 provides and you might have to feather the clutch slightly in these cases ... This action is called riding skills :) ...If you start pinning this 250 in the woods and want more, go ahead and quit your day job and be a PRO rider ;) ...

My 08 TXC250 does a very good job each day ... woods, roads, trails, hardtop ... It just keeps giving ...

Yup, I have a 07 smr that rips and will get me busted the way I like to ride it. The 250 with power commander and full-Leo, race ecu, lets me pinIMGP0040.JPG it (1,300 RPM) when ever needed. The suspension, Brakes and handling are second to none for a stock bike, I like to keep it fun and safe.....

Hey guys, can anyone explain the cat removal process? Is it all that necessary, like will it plug up with the PU done?

Maybe just provide a link to a previous write up? Thanks.

Oh, i almost forgot, unlike my 08 TE, this battery has NO strap holding it down. Is the seat supposed to clamp it in place or is mine missing?? I see no tabs where one would hook on.....

BTW, put both on a scale tonight, the 08 450 came in at 285#, the 11 250 261#. both had about a half tank of fuel. Nice!!!

My history is from a 2006 TE510 to a 2005 wr250f and a 2007 ktm 250exc-f to my now 2010 te250....

te510, monster motor, pulls hard and throws boulders and a good open turf bike !
wr250f, absolute hoot in the woods !
kato, same, no bottom end power and ripped like a 2t mid and top ! great fun !
2010 te250, more bottom end than both of above bikes, felt lighter, great feel, loved it ! . I will never go back to a big bore for woods and general use, just not worth the extra weight and fight when the 250 will have you laughing in your helmet all day !

If you do not need a plated bike.....the KTM 250 xc-w is way more fun. Way better gearing, less weight, e-start, less cost to run. Here in Socal I need a plated bike so the TE 250 with gets the job done.

So no oil filter screens to clean on the '11 250?? Is it simple as it seems, just a single drain plug? This is just too easy.

Boy o boy this bike starts easy and fast! I consider my 450 "dialed in" especially after some time with ibeat. It runs good, no back firing, no low end bog, great smooth power but it never has been a Good starter. PIA when cold and PIA when hot. The 250 shows it up on starting.

Still a few unanswerd questions Im hoping someone can help with,

Is the battery supposed to have something to hold it down?
Is their a CAT in the stock muffler that needs to be removed?

The seat holds the battery in place. I also wonder about how to remove the CAT .....
BTW, I just got my 250 and it actually made riding enjoyable in the woods and I weigh in at 250 plus. The little sucker will climb just about anything as far as I can tell.

The seat does indeed hold down the battery as stated. If you look at the seat bottom side you will see the peice designed to do so.

If you plugged in the power up dongle, you may as well remove the cat converter for a clean open exhaust flow. The cat is located at the header pipe/ muffler junction. Just un-bolt the muffler (2 bolts & a spring) and remove the cat from the end of the pipe. A spring puller tool really helps as the spring is a bit tight!

I changed out the muffler to an FMF. It is shorter, lighter & quieter, USFS approved.

Thanks dalecarlsbad .....

I see FMF list 3 mufflers for the 11 TE250 ... Q4, Powercore and Factory4.1 SL (no SA on the last one). Which one are you running?

As I suspected. Nice to hear that it is quieter than the stock Arrow, which isnt too bad. I will put that on my upgrade list....

Just what I was looking for, thanks guys! Didn't realize the Cat was there. I thought it might be under the can rivets.

The seat on the 250 looks just like my 450 which also has a rubber strap holding the batt down.

So far this 250 has exceeded my expectations. It is powered up with the "dongle", but i havent removed the air filter restriction yet or removed the cat. They will be within the night or 2. The bike feels sooo much lighter and nimble compared to the 450.

Couple flaws i found so far- their are 2 bolts holding the coil on, one is bolted properly the other is missing its target. They jammed the bolt in so hard they bent the tab its supposed to go in. The other is when i went to change the front tire/wheel, I had a hard time getting the axle out. When I did, i found the forks way off binding the axle bolt. Not by a little, by a lot, like just under 1/4". I will be also changing the fork oil soon to make sure the levels are even and oil is free of break- in junk.:)

Always a good idea to check all fasteners and swap fluids after a little break in. And it is unfortunate that humans still take shortcuts and make 'beer-thirty' errors..... The quality has been pretty solid on my 4 Husqvarnas, but they aint perfect yet.

Not perfect but good. I myself prefer these little quirky things to get an overall higher quality bike. I also prefer my bike made by a human over a machine as long as they have a passion for the building process and not just hammer out as many as possible before the end of the day. You'd think with how machines are taking over the assembly process of most "vehicles" that they would try to preserve what human involvement is left.

Did my first Enduro "practice" with a riding buddy today. This bike seems to make me about 40% faster. Its completely amazing how I can throw this bike into corners and lay it in compared to the 450.

Unfortunately my head got a little too big.

I lay'ed it in a bit too much. Did this-

cause this little bastard wouldn't move!

The plastic didn't bend but shattered! Hope to find 11 plastic in stock somewhere soon.
