  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Coolant Drop Each Race...Normal??

pahusky

Husqvarna
Pro Class
2012 TXC250...

When new...pulled all the plumbing/fan/thermostat.

Replaced with CV4 hoses, but have stock radiators with CV4 2.0 cap and stock pump. Currently running Engine Ice...

Lets assume it's always checked and topped off.

After an easy practice or easy weekend session the level may be right down to the top of the fins when looking inside. I always considered this normal fluid loss from expansion.

After a rough 3 hour outing the coolant level may be down an inch or more below the fins.

Bike continues to run great, the oil looks and smells like normal used oil, I can see nothing else leaking.

This thing gets extremely hot on the mud runs and I 'think' that the extra fluid loss if from expansion.

Anyone else with the same symptoms or suggestions on different things I should also check out?

Thanks,

R,

The boy runs the machine, not me. I've ask, but he has never said anyhting about smelling anything weird...

What I should do is rig a catch bottle the next time he pushes it hard to see if it is pushing out of the overflow.

I have checked this thing high and low and don't see any leaks...

Right after a race, if the mud is somewhat dry I start looking for oil leaks that are easy to see and any other wet areas...usually don't find anything.

Of course, by this time it may already be leaked out and dry...

My x-light never boiled even when it was brand new and running that super lean stock jetting and ECU mapping in Ignorant tight woods with hi gearing and plenty of clutch use.....what I mean to say is they don't blow coolant.

They do blow oil out the breather but not coolant.

I believe you...

Just need to confirm where it's going then...

It's cleaned up...I'm going to top it off tonight, pull the overflow hose out to the side get it hot and see what's up...

Will report back.

Thanks

I don't think anyone else here races 3 hour GNCCs so it might be hard for others to answer. And with just racing a track like Snowshoe I would say that you probably lost coolant do to race conditions. I would put the fan back on just in case. It really doesn't weigh much and it may save the engine.
Have you asked anyone else that raced Snowshoe how much coolant they lost? Even if they race a different brand bike.

It is not normal for a bike to loose water unless it overheats and boils over. Regardless of how long the race. I have done 6 hours ISDE's in HOT weather and not lost a drop. (WR250) the cooling system is sealed and pressurized, the only time it leaks is if something is wrong or it over heats.
