• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I make these little RAM mounts for something completely non-related, and just tonight, it occured to me that it will fit right where my tank washer is... I've ordered the RAM GoPro mount and a long RAM arm to go on it. Clears the bars perfectly.

My question is this... I haven't filmed w/ a rigid mount to the bike. Is the footage worth anything? Obviously when it's helmet mounted, your body helps stabalize the whole deal. I figure this will be either a great view from just above the bar, or a total shakefest waste. Once I get the mounts in, I'll post some footage if it's not garbage. We're headed to Hatfield McCoy for Thanksgiving, so I should have ample opportunity.... (pictured btw w/ a phone mount. Not intending to use that. It was the only accessory I had laying around...)

I made a mount for my GoPro that is held in place by the bolt that holds the headlight assembly/plate mount and the vids come out great. Not too bouncy except in the most extreme conditions. I think the postition on your bike is just fine. Post a vid when you get it done!
 
You must be a tall paluka looking at the risers.
Great GPS mount idea. Might be a tad restrictive for a go pro.
 
The parts showed up today. It's rock solid, and believe it or not, isn't in the way at all. On the downside, because of my super high risers, the view will get a lot of top clamp. I'll get some footage up next week.

This is all good and well but after many months of testing if you want zero vibration simply fitit to the lower lip of your neck brace and u get a great angle fitting in the bars, grips as well ;)
 
Well... We were in the rain much of the time, so I never really pulled the camera out. I did grab this short clip just to see, but it's of nothing special. In addition, I uploaded to YouTube vs. Vimeo for the first time in a long time, and now I know why I quit using YouTube. It KILLS any quality that was there, so sorry about that...

As for the mount, it did keep shake out to a decent extent, though I'm not a fan on my bike, as I have a mile of riser there, so it puts a lot of top clamp in the shot...

this looks awesom, just wondering whats stopping you drilling and tapping that lovely bar clamp and putting the mount ontop of the bars or is that a really lame idea?

Quick tip after a lot of testing on my TR650: I eventually noticed that by touching various parts of the bike some places vibrated more than other due to the engine vibrations. In my case the center of the bars seemed the least sensitive, the farther out the bars I went the more vibration, and the other parts of the bike had more vibration as well.

But clearly the CR144 does not seem to have much engine vibration where that gopro was mounted.
 
i thought the center of the bars would of been a good spot.
did that clamp come with the handguards or is that a custom fabrication?
 
That clamp is part of Fastway's kit, and it's great, but it won't fit the 13 because Husky went to the odd angled bar riser so the bolt pattern is different. I picked up some 11 risers (nothing's different but the bolt pattern) and it work like a champ.
