  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Cooked my top end on my 2012 WR300

So it looks as though the engine has already had a fresh piston and rings. It has a pro x 6394 piston in it already.image.jpg

Looks like your typical lean seize. Needs rejetted. Also IMHO run 32-1 or 40-1 anything with less oil is asking for trouble. Lots of these modern oils say 60 or even 100 to one is OK but I disagree. Less lube is less lube no matter how you slice it. I'd rather deal with a little spooge and cost of oil than ruin a motor. Some people can put around on trails and be fine at 60-1 or less oil but at some point your going to be stuck on a big hill, overheating your motor and thats when the issues will start. This oil in the gas is solely responsible for lubing the crank, rod, piston, cylinder, and powervelves. More oil is more oil no matter how good you think your oil is.

^yeh thats my idea of jetting right there!^. was reading this thread & thinking just the same. 1/2 a turn would suffice wouldnt it? my PJ is a little too hard to turn by fingers(need little flat blade or needle node pliers) but still lazy man's jetting which is A-ok with me:thumbsup:

Have dropped the head and cylinder off to my machinist for cleaning up. Will order the piston and lectron next week. The mikuni is no longer welcome in my life.

You might consider having your local bike shop closely inspect the cylinder after your machinist is done to make sure you have adequate cross hatching on the nikasil liner. You may have galled the cylinder enough to compromise the nikasil. If that's the case you'll need to send it out for a relining.

The machinist/engine builder I use is one that many of he local bike shops use so I am
Confident in their judgement. They will have it ready tomorrow and we will check the post hone measurement before selecting our piston. We were a little surprised to find the piston that was in he bike was actually a Ktm part number.

Got my freshly honed cylinder and head back today. Looks good, cleaned up well. Have also ordered wossner piston kit, should have it by Tuesday.

When you check/change your jetting don't leave the slide out of the equation. I saw a new WR 300 seize for this reason. All the other jetting was good but for some reason the wrong slide came installed from the factory.
