  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Compatible Friction Plates

i just wanted to confirm that friction plates from a 2008 Honda CRF450R will fit in my 08 te 510. can anyone definately say that it will or won't?

so i can order a new basket for a crf450r and it will fit in my husky as well? if thats the case, i'll have a lot more options to choose from.
I dont think the basket would work but I couldn't really say, I'm only talking about the friction plates. FWIW I have the CRF plates in my 2005 TE510 as well even though the part numbers are different, both bikes have Rekluses in them. The drive plates from a CRF will NOT fit in the Husky, just the friction plates.

ok. thats what i figured. thanks again for confirming that the frictions from a crf450 will work for our bikes.

what's compatible with the XLite? (I assume the 250 and 310 have the same clutch parts)

i just popped off the clutch cover and checked out the basket. everything looks good on it (no notching) for 2300 miles.
when i reinstalled the clutch springs, i did what scott summers suggested and left 2 opposite springs out. clutch pull is much lighter than stock. i'm not going to be keeping it like this for long, rekluse should be arriving is 2 weeks

does anyone know how many friction plates our bikes take? i tried looking in the shop and parts manual but it does not indicate the number of friction plates. i would assume there are 7 or 8 but i'm not sure. i should have counted them the other day when i had the cover off. so i'm hoping someone can tell me so you can save me the time to take the cover off again. thanks!

hi all
i actually just bought a crf kit for my 05 under the impression (from manufacturer listings) that the frictions would indeed fit my bike but it seems the centre i/d is too small on crf clutches? it only looks a couple of mm but that is enough to have them back on the market again haha...any other options to genuine for clutch kit minus the rape? ((ie frictions steels and springs)) didnt think it would be so hard to find an aftermarket kit so almost starting to contemplate spending big to go oem!

Thats odd, I am on my second set of crf frictions in my '05 TE510 and my first on my '09 TE450, although both have a Rekluse in them. The OEM kit is the only thing I've seen with drive plates but it does not come with new springs.

The center clutch of the rekluse is smaller in diameter, unlike oem clutch which is bigger. So the crf friction plates will only work on 05-07 with rekluse.

So I guess they should work with the stock center hub on 08-10 though, interesting, I did not know they changed the center hub in 08. That sucks for some, the stock kit is close to $200!

the 2008 crf450 friction plates are working fine on my 2008 te510. they matched up perfectly with my stock frictions

sorry to harp on but after trying to get accurate pricing ..it seems i am up for $400aus and almost 2 weeks wait for oem clutch pack which is just stupid! if i have to wait anyhow why spend that much IF there are any other options...can anyone confirm 100% whether any other models (ie 2008 which seems easier to source) are the same as a 2005 te 510 WITH A STANDARD clutch assembly?
dont care about brand just care that they fit once they get here and if i can save a few bucks that would also be swell....any other brands etc available online or here in australia?

Clutch plates for 08 will not fit on 05's with standard clutch, I am quite certain of that.
You can bring a oem friction plate to a part shop and try to find a matching plate, many different bikes will share the same size plate, that's what I did for my 05 TE510. The shop keeper managed to find friction plates from other bike (he doesn't know for what model), same inner and outer diameter, but just thicker. So as long as the substitute stack of clutch plates is the same thickness as the 8 pieces of oem stack plates, you are good to go. I am using 7 pieces of thicker friction plates instead of the oem 8 pieces with no issue.
But if you need the steel plates too then I would suggest to order from hall's cycle. I don't think the group will cost so much.
