• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Coldest day on your husky so far

Could of drove the cage but what's the fun in that? Morning commutes on the bike really brighten up the day. I haven't had one for a couple weeks due to the ice and snow on the road. I can care less about temperature as long as the roads are clear.

12/8/13, 25 degrees F here in Maine, no snow, dry road conditions, Klim bad lands pro jacket and pants, Shoei neotec helmet, winter gloves. Not bad except my three fingers on my right hand, num. I did 65 miles. Now we have snow in the woods with more to come this weekend 8 to 14 inches for us. With all the sand and salt they use on our roads I think my riding is over til spring, mid March or early April.

not too bitterly cold but challenging with non-studded tires

I did get a some minor snow riding experience back about 40 years ago though that helps and it was a blast!

21 degrees

18 degrees F for a 26 mile loop around the backroads couple days ago. Just because.

Everything worked fine...no problems. What else can I say? Bbbrrrrr.

Actually, I was A-ok bundled up with heated gear and MSR Elephant Ears. Sure was glad to have my large Madstad adjustable windshield out front. That's icing on the cake......er...uh...nose, I reckon.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Brrrrrr... It was cold. Check out the snow!

But still shirt weather in the 60's out of the shadows

I couldn't not watch the video. yea, you win hands down. I have to ask. Did you continue on to Ouray ? I was on a overloaded F800 and slid half way down the mountain. (when it was dry). Can't imagine going down with snow.

Coldest I've seen is 20 Farenheit. Not afraid to ride when it is colder, but it just hasn't gotten any colder. This is why I prefer to live down South. I'm not such a big fan of the cold.

Exactly! I hope to never ride in freezing temps again. I know I'll get caught in the cold or even rain at some point, but for the most part, I have a car, van and truck for the inclement weather, and I love driving them too. I like heaters, wipers and stereo. A place for that hot coffee on a cold morning (50º is cold). Sorry, this older guy is civilized.

yes the videos are a bit slow moving... We did ride into Ouray and then got on the million dollar highway for a spirited ride down to Silverton. We tented it that night up near mineral creek. This descent in snow was very challenging when you factor in the terrain and potential loss of life if you slid off the edge. We did not want to get stuck or stranded at that elevation with no way down.

Sorry, I need to clarify. Once I saw the post topic I HAD to watch the videos. Using a double negative to say I could not NOT watch the videos. That sure seemed like a lot of work at high elevation. I usually look back and say " glad I did it". Thanks for sharing the videos.

I liked your post RD but riding at 10* doesn't say much about the condition of your sanity..

I'm perfectly sane. The blower stopped working after I changed the battery in the cage yesterday. Something computerized is pissed off. So the heater in the car doesn't work. But the heater on the bike works great. So I rode.

Haha...well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. It was 3* here yesterday. I just stared at it from the window. I don't much like riding under 30* because it makes my old bones ache.
