  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Cold start sequence for 2010 TC250

GranburyChuck

Husqvarna
C Class
Okay all, I am new to the forum and only getting back into bikes after a 10 year hiatus. Bought a 2010 TC250 about a month ago. Previous owner said that he had the Zip Ty mods done to the carb. I started it when checking the bike out and the day I bought it. Can't remember exact sequence but I think the PO had me crack the throttle while kicking down. No decomp (red knob) or choke (black). Bike started after about 5 kicks. Today was my first chance to really ride the bike. Spent 30 minutes kicking the hell out of it and nothing. Tried with and without decomp, choke, throttle. Probably flooded it. There is almost no compression (kickstart getting stiffer) that I can tell. Anyway, can someone tell me the sequence they use. I have seen several versions here and elsewhere. Pretty frustrating. Video would be nice. Since the bike ran before I would assume everything is okay. Had about half tank of 1 month old gas (w/ fuel saver additive) and added fresh premium today.

The PO didn't have the manual. Says he tossed it since it was done in poor english and didn't make sense. So I am trying to figure this out on my own.

Thanks

Assuming the carb is jetted right this is what I do.
Turn gas on.
Pull out choke.
Two twists of the throttle.
Throttle closed, making sure not to twist it in the kicking motion, smooth, steady kick, usually starts in 3 kicks.
New spark plug never hurts.
Some of these bikes never did start well and if that is the case, search this forum for set ups.
If you stall it hot and it want start, try the hot start lever.

We had truoble when stock but a call to Hall's and they set us up with the carb updates and now we have no trouble hot or cold. When cold choke out, no throttle, get to comp. stroke and press smooth throught he stroke and it fires to life in 2-3 kicks every time. Once warm it's 1 -2 kicks max. Make sure you don't just start kicking it hard and fast like a 2-stroke with the throttle twisted; a top compression slow kick no throttle is the key to starting this bike.

mine likes 2 or 3 slow kicks to charge the cylinder, 2 quick shots of the throttle, find tdc, and then kick good, and it should fire right up. have you checked what jets are in the bike? save yourself a lot of trouble and check, then call halls and get their jetting set up. the bike runs way better, and is much easier to start. halls changes the needle, pilot, main and the leak jet. until i got the jetting straight mine did not like to start cold or hot. with the jets installed, much better.

Thanks all. The PO said he had put jets and set up per Zip Ty racing. I have started the bike a few weeks ago but guess I forgot the sequence. Resorted back to my old 2 stroke days and kick hard and fast. Also, I noticed a nipple at the bottom of the carb (facing down) that is open and seemed to have gas coming from it (drop). Couldn't find where a vent hose might have fallen off. Anyone else have this?
