    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Cold start / hot start issues after spending 600€ fixing the engine

So guys, i'm really in deep ****. Any help is much appreciated.

The bike has the pu plug and am running 97-105-110 but every setting i use i have this start issues. It drowns very quickly when missing one or two starts.

The husqy dealer here in Bucharest won't help me repair the bike because they were only trained for post 2013 bikes so i have to rely on you guys for some help.

From the moment i bought it in April i had to do in this order:
- water pump replacement
- temp sensor replacement
- spark plug replacement
- airbox replacement
- cyl lower, upper and head gasket replacement after resurfacing the cyl and cyl head because they were off and it blew out the cooling liquid because the cyl gasket was blown.
- also, the guys at the service told me they did the valve clearance and seating

So guys...what do you think?
 
in my opinion, you have to put the bike under original factory conditions

Hey Rotax,
I have the default exhaust, will try first with the pu plug on and 100-100-100 and see what it does, if it-s no difference i will put the lambda probe back again.

So i've just updated my CO settings to 100-100-100 and now i have to wait to get the engine cold again so i can try a cold start. Later today i am going to try a hot start also.
There seems not to be any differece from 97-106-112 to 100-100-100 but maybe i didn't try it for too long.
 
I would add that cold or hot starting problems almost always depend on a thermistor failure.
you say you have replaced it

Well, i replaced it with a new sensor (the modified part number) and in iBeat it seems to be ok, it reports the coolant temp as it should.

I started the engine at 29 degrees celsius (25 outside) and didn't start easy. No problem with hot start yet, i don't think it got hot enough.
 
in the first video I see you use for a long time the starter lever .....
with temperatures above 20 degrees I never use the starter lever.
It would be a stupid thing to use it and it would cause a startup

Tried with and without the starter, and, as you say, it is harder to start with the starter lever. Now i mainly start it without starter.

I'm running Windows xp 32 bits on a virtual machine on Mac through Virtualbox. If you want windows to recognize your usb device you also have to install on that machine Virtual guest additions.

Anyway, i ran the bike for 40 minutes, turned it off, in 10 minutes tried to start it and, of course it did the same thing, after idling for 4 seconds it stalled.
 
to me it seems hot when you try to start missing gas. if the minimum increase is better?
is the tps attached?
Start with 105/100/100.....
The engine run lean for me when is hot
 
I think you have a fuel delivery problem (lack of fuel pressure). It could be you have a kink in the fuel line, failing fuel pressure regulator at the pump, or weak fuel pump. You need to devise a way to check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail/injector. I have a liquid filled gauge T'd into my fuel line and permanently installed on the bike by the gauge cluster.

Hey Dynobob, thanks for the tip. This is what the mechanics at the service think it should be but they did not take it apart yet. Should the fuel pump pressure be arround 45 psi?
 
So update, my mechanic told me the fuel pump does not have enough pressure and this causes the hot start problems for sure. I ordered one of ebay for arround 40 dolars (original was 500) and am waiting for the delivery which will take some time. Tomorrow i will check valve clearance and hope this is the problem for the cold start.
 
I hope he actually tested the pump and didn't leap to the conclusion that the fuel pump is bad. It could be the pressure regulator has failed in the open position and is bypassing all the fuel back into the tank (another member here just had that happen). I've also seen the short fuel line inside the tank start leaking and loose pressure to the fuel rail (happened to my buddy twice but both hoses were aftermarket and ethanol fuel ate them). It's possible you have a bad pump especially if you ever ran the bike dry on fuel.

OFF topic, have you used Twinduro on the front wheel? Me bike starts wobbeling like trying to tankslap after 100km/h even after resetting the suspension to factory setting. Also, if i move the bars like trying to slalom (quick change of directions) i feel that it does the same thing. I'm really afraid to go past 115 km/h.

Has the wheel been balanced?
To get more stability at high speeds, you can pull up the fork limbs by 1 cm above the top plate.
the pressure keeps it at no less than 1.2 bar on the road
 
So, i finally found out that:
- the pump was not working properly, replaced it with a 35$ pump from ebay and now the engine starts good when hot and has a lot more power
- the valve clearance was off so this is why the cold start was hard

i also need to mention that when changing CO settings in ibeat they didn't have much effect with the old pump so this could have been a sign that the pump was not working properly.
