• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

clutch up

Husqvarna
B Class
I have posted bf about wheeling I can power up in third but I still can not clutch up in fourth like the drz what rpm should I try or anymore advice to clutch up the 630 my buddy with the drz was wondering same thing I cant get revs/ timing right

Stock gearing? It's going to be tough. According to gearing commander.com 3500 rpm in 5th on the DRZ400SM is 46.9 km/h and on the SMS Husky it's 62.3. The Husky is geared much taller than the Suzuki. Actually, stock, it would appear that 4th gear on the Husky is taller than the Suzuki's 5th.

You also have a lot longer wheelbase on the husky as well as firmer suspension working against your wheelies.

I still haven't figure out how to wheelie mine.

It's probably for the better... I sold the DRZ because it was too much of a wheelie machine, and I thought I was going to get in trouble with it.

Swap for a shorter RR swingarm if you want a wheelie machine. As was asked, what gearing? Getting it up in 3rd takes a good bit of effort on my part with 15/41 gearing. I normally just jump it up in 2nd and shift to 3rd etc.

I got I think is it 48? I don't remember to be honest it pulls up in third stand up but I gotta yank it hard at 75 mph im at 5800 rpm when I power up in third im at about 3400 3600 rpm about 40-45 mph

The SMR 630 was a race bike from the early 2000's. Factory sms gearing is 15/38.
And standups are a bit of a different story, haha.
Your second to last post would be easier to understand with some periods, I thought you were powering it up in 3rd at 75, haha...

The stock DRZ has much closer effective ratios than the 630 with stock sprockets, so what you can do in 4th on the DRZ may not be as easy on the 630.

Here is a comparison:

Gear--DRZ--630
1-----2.29--2.62
2-----1.73--1.81
3-----1.38--1.35
4-----1.09--1.09
5-----0.86--0.92
6 -----------0.77
Chain-3.36--2.53 <--This is what makes the biggest difference

Internally, 4th gear is identical between the two, but the DRZ is sprocketed 33% lower than the 630. So to simplify, the 630 would need to make ~33% more torque at a given RPM to be apples to apples with the DRZ in 4th.

ETA: Also you should occasionally bleed your clutch master cylinder if it feels like your clutch is slipping. I'll do mine a couple times a year. Just wrap it in a rag and crack the screws in the top cover loose to let the excess oil out that is pushed up when the clutch wears and forces the slave piston deeper.

that makes sense i know about gearing but never know that i thought more power easy wheelies makes sense this bike and this forum have taught me so much thank you

he also if u know this is the swing arm on the te the same as sms?

Yes all 630s use the same swingarm

hey, I think its time to get my valves done, just about 4000miles, It doesn't feel smooth and I think im loosing power.

what is ur top speed and what rmp are u at ?

plus my bikes feeling twitchy im thinking my wheels need balancing

Have you checked/adjusted valves before? They should have been done long before 4000 miles.

With my stock gearing, I was at redline (8500rpm) at about 112mph.

Twitchy how? I've never balanced a supermoto wheel. It's usually because of an incorrectly set suspension, mainly the rear sag.

Clean the air filter, new iridium plug, find some ethanol-free premium if you can. If the valves were good at 3000 they are probably good now.

I'm running 15/41 as well, comes up easy in 2nd the can change up to 4th before I chicken out.

The best to learn how to wheelie is on an old low powered trail bike preferably with a short wheelbase (Honda XR 200 is perfect). Low power means unless you can get to the balance point it's just not gunna work. If possible do it on sand as the rolling resistance from the sand is like constantly riding up hill and it's softer when you stuff up:lol:

Everybody needs a fiddy

And I've topped out 5th on one wheel a few times, set it down at about 90mph, not the best thing for that front tire or stem bearings when the speedo is reading about 15mph...
