  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clutch Cyclinder Help - 2004 TE 450

tricky

Husqvarna
Hi all,

New to this forum and the world of off road motorbiking. Been riding for a few years but have recently moved to the states and made the most of cheap motorbikes. As a result I picked up a road legal TE450 with the hopes of improving my dirt skills ( which hopefully will improve my road skills), to explore off the beaten track in California and more importantly to have a lot of fun.

Anyway, I'm loving the TE450 so far - it's light but can do the posted limit on most sealed roads enabling me to take it pretty much anywhere. Sounds good too.

It's all good with the exception of one small little niggling clutch issue. The clutch cylinder seeps fluid from the top (around lid edge and screw holes) when bouncing around off road a lot or when at freeway speeds (high vibrations caused by imbalanced rim lock in front wheel). It does not leak if doing flat fire trails or the road at low speed. As a result I think it is because the membrane is old and not sealing properly?

This is just a guess, but I was hoping for a bit of feedback as I'd like to be able to ride without the lever going limp after prolonged use.

I tried to find a part number or an online store but did not have much luck. If anyone could help identify what part I should buy and where from it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks all!

I don't know if you need to buy anything at this point. Are you sure it's leaking from the lid? If so 1st take out the membrane and make sure it's not deformed- they sometimes "pop" inside out, partially and so to speak, so look at a pic of what it should look like in its normal state (though, just by looking at it and fiddling with it, you should be able to tell its normal molded shape.)

Next make sure it's not over-filled...a few millimeters lower than you've had it should work. You can tell by the shape of the membrane how much room you've got. Then make sure it's seating properly around the edge when you put the lid on and tighten. Keep in mind the lid has a tiny seeping hole for over-fill-age.

Now that I type this it dawns on me that you may not have the same master cylinder as I have (TE630), but I think it is...the Magura's are common and issues are not uncommon. Seepage at the top isn't usually a big deal, it's the seepage around the plunger that drives us nuts (rebuild kits often work for a while, but it's really a wearing bore issue.)
