• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I use purple degreaser and pinesol for a while now, both work great. Anyone use landry detergent? Just hit me as an idea in basement today.
 
Good old kero to clean the the dirt and old filter oil in one bucket then in another bucket of warm soapy water with a bit of laundry powder to rinse, dry and then apply filter oil.
 
the misses will be way torqued off if you wash air filters in the washer just sayin i use gasoline for the first pass then fake dawn dish soap and hot water SWEEZE [NO TWISTING] as dry as possible then hang it up somewhere and air dry
 
gasoline outside for the win! let dry and reoil...done deal and doesnt hurt the filter at all. gets the filter clean fast! never tried it but i bet kero works too..
i have a bucket i use with a cookie rack at the bottom to let the dirt collect below it..
 
I just use simple green and hot water. Pour it down the sink when done. Let the filter air dry and re-oil.
 
i was a soap n water guy [for safety] thought i was gettin it done them one time i found myself outa soap so i used gas DAMN was i wrong good filter oil is tuff stuff i always two step it now BTW if you need your filter dry quick and dont have an air compressor after you squeeze out all you can wet it down with alcohol work it in good so it mixes with the water give it a squeeze the alcohol evaporates real quick and takes the water with it
 
Bel-ray tip: cut it with white gas (naphtha, coleman fuel, lighter fluid: samey-same in the US) about 4:1 before applying it to the filter, and the filter oil will now spread super easy and fast. Evaporates in about 5mins.

I imagine gasoline would work too- it's just not as volatile. ...and would drive the saftey nazis even crazier.

sidebar: my dad, who had the most laissez-faire attitude about gasoline of anyone I know, spent a year in the hospital during the Korean War after suffering major burns from a gasoline fire while in the Navy, in Manila bay. That shit scares me though- and naphtha is worse ('cept maybe not so toxic). be careful
 
Which do you prefer: Dip the filter in a tub of oil and squeeze out the excess, or the spray on aerosol type from a can? :confused:

I have done both, and tend to prefer the spray on type.

When I dipped the filter in oil and squeezed out the excess, the filter always seemed to have too much oil in it. (read: dripped from the air box for a day or two) :o

I never go excessive on oil (saturate by dunking) because i clean every race or ride. I put quarter size amount on nitrile glove and only kneed outside of filter (3times) and if it has a sticky draw between 2 fingers in several spots on outside of filter? Im done. Clean with pinesol of degreaser. Moving to dawn dish next
 
No Toil all the way for me these days, except I use Oxyclean and hot water. No gas or other toxic chemicals needed or put down the drain! Much cheaper overall too.
Twin Air filters with No Toil work great, no sign of dirt beyond the filter. Cleans up easy and a spoonful or so oil spreads easy, hang the filter overnight, squeeze again with paper towels and ready to go. I've got 6 filters now and PC filter skins too, so always a clean 1 waiting.

I put my filter in a plastic shopping bag. Then I pour some filter oil into the bag and work it into the filter. Then I wrap the filter in a paper towel and squeeze out as much of the oil as possible.
 
dont dunk it in oil that is waaaay to much.... drizzle or put some in the palm of your hand and knead it in..... I do 3-4 at a time and store in seperate zip lock bags....

No Toil is NO WHERE near as good as Belray..... PERIOD When it comes to letting crap into a $1000 engine I will take safe over sorry every time....

Same with spray on.... its ok but thats about it.... I want sticky crap that dirt cant find its way thru.....
 
Hot water and Dawn with a cookie rack in a 5 gallon bucket. I just slowly place the filter dirty side down on the cookie rack and let it sit there a minute, then swoosh it up and down a bit. It floats the dirty Bel-Ray right off and sends it to the bottom. Squeeze out and shake out, then put the filter in a gallon ziploc bag with some oil, squeeze it in and it's ready to go when I need a freshie.
 
I use No Toil filter oil, and Twin Air filters, i wait until all the filters are dirty then throw them in the washing machine, plenty of washing powder and they come out looking like new!

I use NoToil too, but don't wanna get shot for putting them in the washer. I use a shallow oil drain pan in the kitchen sink so I've got plenty of hot water to work with. Usually, it makes a couple of nasty rings in the sink, I give it a quick clean and wipe it all down so the missus thinks I'm being helpful.:thumbsup:
