  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Chrome Plateing

Anybody have a Metal finishing Shop they use for Chrome Plating ? Kick Starters Shifters etc ? I would prefer somebody mail order. The few shops that still do it in the PNW treat it as if they were Gold Plating a Rolls Royce.

Thank the EPA for the prices of chrome plating. Kalifornia is about done for chrome. Arizona is where most of my buds get theirs done.

Try zinc plating, it works.

Zink- Cadium plating seems to be all but done as well. Most of the Chrome Automotive Wheel work is sent to California however but I'm under the impression its going south of the Border. I bought one of the Caswell Zink Plating Kits and when I saw how involved it was going to be to set it up I kinda side lined it. However I am going to get it out and make a better effort this time. I can say that by Glass Beading parts like Nuts and Bolts using medium grit has produced results that are near Zink plating. This is only when using Grit that has been previously used to blast Aluminum and it gets impregnated in the metal. I figured that it would just rust over the next day but on my restored bikes that stay inside it hasn't. They also make a Chrome Kit, which isn't really Chrome but something that looks similar.

I've used Van Nuys Plating in the past and was happy with the results. They've been around since the 50's and have weathered the EPA and AQMD (air quality management district) turmoil surrounding the plating business.

Don't be afraid to ask questions about prepping your parts before sending them. Old stuff that's pitted or corroded will not be like new when finished even though the parts are run through an acid bath.

I am unsure, from reading your post, what exactly you want done?...chrome/cad plating...zinc..bead blasting?
It all depends on the item being refinished ie: the bolts, bufo bolts can be stripped and nickel coated. You can source the red nyloc nuts on ebay. other parts if they were originally cad plated can be yellow zinc plated and it looks like cad plating. Black zinc looks good too, and regular zinc.. while other parts like the kick starter can be painted or powder coated...I will look for my link on some nickel plating I had done.

I know your plight, cad plating is basically only used for aircraft...look for a airplane shop, call..ask around.
Chrome...haaha yep ..rare as hens teeth.
