• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Got the new Vholdr HD helmet cam last week just in time for my 3 day trip to East Fort Rock trail system (aka China Hat).

Here's a vid of trail 50 heading south on my WR300.

Holy cow! That's some beautiful forests up there. And the weather looks lovely too. I could almost smell the wet trees and earth while I was watching those videos.:thumbsup:

Although is fun to lead, way better video when you can chase a bike for all to see.

Yep...great video....keeping up good pace like that makes for great footage....especially when you are chasing down another rider...

brilliant scenery is icing on the cake...:)

I've got a few hours of vids to cut through. Those were just the only ones short enough to upload without a bunch of cutting.

That place rules! The WR was really liking those 4th, 5th gear trails.
Racked up 171miles over 3 days.

I lived many a years in SoCal, so I know the scenery here is beyond comparable.

And I lived in Washington near Olympia for a year, so I know something about riding in the lush woods, but yeah....that stuff you were riding in in the video looks pretty lush to me, especially at this time of year down here.:D
 
Man...the picture quality is pretty damn perfect and the sound is much better than the non-HD version. Do you have it mounted on the side of your helmet?

I love the first video...technically fun...my kinda of riding!
 
Yeah. If its on the right side then its stuck on the side of my helmet with the adhesive pad. On the left, then its the goggle strap.

I love that lava rock section in the first vid. The 300 just motors over it at idle.

If I remember correctly it was around 170mb untouched.
Vimeo doesn't compress it too bad, but it does look better and much larger on my computer or TV vs. any of the video sites.
The vids uploaded to vholdrs site look pretty bad, but its a free site, so I can't complain too much.

I changed the file names on some files. Here's the vids:

PC, I've been thinking about one of the HD VholdR's. How do you think they'll hold up in rain?
 
Jeff uses one all the time. They seem to hold up pretty well to being ripped off by trees, getting coated in dust, slopped by mud and being rained on. The only trouble with rain is that the rain drops on the lens makes the videos pretty blurry.:(

Thanks Dirtdame. Blurry rain vids are no problem, I just wanted to make sure the camera wouldn't break if it got wet. Some of the web info I've gotten on the VholdR's say they look suceptible to rain/moisture related failure... definitely not intended for "water-proof" applications like my GoPro. The video quality of the HD VholdR is a lot better than my GoPro.
 
certainly not waterproof, but it is fairly water resistant. I've had mine in some moderate rain and it did fine.

The back of the cam (where the battery, sd card and controls are) are not covered well as-is. If I know I'll be riding in Oregon Sunshine then I'll tape the seams.
