  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Chattering From Engine in 6th Gear, Dunno what is going on

AA Class
I have an 09 smr 510 with about 2700 miles now and on my way to work this morning I heard this awful noise coming from the left side of the engine. It sounded like metal on metal knocking. At first I thought it was the chain possibly slapping, but after further riding I noticed it only happened in 6th gear and it would stop when the clutch was pulled in. I don't know what could be wrong. It is way to new to have transmission problems and why 6th gear? I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

Well I just drained the oil, checked the filters and dried my tears. Here is what I have. It looks like two teeth off of what I assume is 6th gear and a bunch of metal. Here is a picture. Hopefully it works. My next question, is this a warranty thing or am I going to tear it apart myself. I just don't understand how teeth would brake off like that.

Thats freaking incredible(!), and not the first time ive seen someone post something like that. Can't believe that could happen unless you've totally abused it in that 2700 miles. Sorry to see it.......

Wow! That sucks! I would definitely go back to Husky and see if they will do anything. Don't be afraid to tear into a motor. It's not that hard and if you have the manual it's actually just like following a recipe. Plus you'll learn a lot about your motor.

Mate some serious push back to be done here. This is a factory/manufacturing issue. Good luck sport.

Sorry to see this as well:shocked:. Yes, I'd try working with local dealers but plan on doing a tear down myself. Best of luck either way.

I spoke to my closest dealer in Miami. They weren't even sure they could even work on it. So they said they would call me back and never did. So I next called my old hometown dealer and they said no problem, but they needed me to call the dealer I bought it from to check to see if it was still under warranty. One problem I bought it used with 120 miles from a ducati dealer and have no idea where it came from. So I think your right, I am sol and I will be doing the work myself.

Has anyone taken there bike in for warranty work? What was your experience like?

Someone higher up in Husky land will be able to trace the serial number for you.
Don't give up yet. Maybe someone on here has the number to call.

PS. I wouldn't post the serial number on here. Good luck.

It doesn't look like it matters. Talked to a dealer and it is too old. Kinda sucks, but I am brushing up on the manual right now.

Keep pushing and see if husky USA or someone will listen and help you. Maybe you can get the parts at cost or something. That should not have happened. Sorry to hear of your issues.

I can't find a way to contact them. I've checked there site and of everywhere else and the only number I came up with is for Italy. I also emailed them using the address on there site, but that is going to Italy too, I think. If anyone has a number for me that would be great. The next thing i might try is have my mom call the Italian number since she speaks Italian.

I just got off the phone with BMW of North America and they blew me off. Oh well, I should have bought a Chinese bike. :banghead:

That is one of 2 things hammerhead shifting on the street, or poor heat treating on the gears.....since you are the 2nd owner we cannot rule out no 1.

No it doesn't, but there is a company that makes a Cush sprocket. I think I am going to pick one up before I put my bike back together. And I do ride it hard pretty much all the time, but I am pretty easy on the shifting. I have had multiple suzuki's and yamaha's make it years of racing without a problem. I also had drz that lasted me 14000 street miles of hassle free riding. I'm just disappointed.

I just ordered their product, hopefully it works!! They won't ship until Oct 10th so I won't get much of a chance to test it out. Maybe someone could tell us about their experiences?
