• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Changes At Cafe Husky

Good evening all you Cafe Husky members. I guess everybody has noticed that there have been a few problems here at The Cafe. There have been plenty of behind the scenes efforts going on to make things run smoothly again. We have new leadership here at CH now, with the return of our very own Woodschick to the forum. Between her and I, we should keep things up and running and hopefully come up with ways to improve the site. Meanwhile, this will leave Coffee to be able to focus on getting his personal affairs in order without worrying about running this forum as well. We hope the best for Dean, and hope that we will do him proud with our ongoing efforts to keep our community together and sharing their adventures, races, technical tips, and awesome photos. We will post updates and improvements as we make them. Cheers, all!

alright!! I saw WoodsChick like a couple of posts and was wondering....

...got any sailing stories? nice to have an og back and front. er, so to speak.

 Thanks, Trenchcoat85! And thanks for remembering me :p
I'm still sailing. We just took a 2nd last night! We're starting to talk about running the Pacific Cup to Hawaii, too

WC
holy shit! a transpac?!!! going to stretch it to the south seas or sail back uphill? wow. didn't a hurricane/typhoon just hit hawaii (yeah, I know you won't be leaving for a bit... but still, that's a lot of blue water). and beer can racing on a wednesday night?? never heard of such a thing. <grin>

I don't know a whole lot about sailing, just that i like it (took a wine & cheese 70-footer out of santa cruz back in my software days and fell in love with it). of course as a kid I spent hours/days/weeks/months/years on a sea snark in the '60s. but then i discovered motorcycles and racing and that was all she wrote.

eventually (hah.) i'm gonna get something like a vega or slightly bigger and start with a baja bash... after i learn to sail, of course. I'd probably spend a year on the bay/delta (including crewing for races) before i'd venture out to the Farallones. Afterwards, I'd like to do a puddle jump and maybe a circumnavigation but, realistically, I will probably just stop in Mexico and sail in circles around there for 5 years.

Just saw this notice.

Thank you both for stepping up to keep things moving here.

I know that there isn’t a lot of advertising on here, and that means funds are low.

Keep us all in the loop to know what is really involved in making things work.

If we know, we can help!

As stated, glad you're back on board WC! It takes good women to keep us Husky fans on track. And thank you DD for your continued efforts. I was on a cross country trip and really missed the Café.

Could you please fix the classified section so we can at least ask a question or two?
When somebody posts a (bad) for sale ad with no info, price or location, and it happens a lot, it makes no sense that anybody with any interest has to go through the same process of sending messages.

This is a good site, it's too bad the classifieds are so bad.

Thanks for the suggestion, Zomby woof. Neither of us know how to make those changes but we'll take it under advisement and see if we can't figure out how to make it more user-friendly. I know Dean wanted it that way for a reason, I just don't know what it was.

Thanks to all for your efforts. The site was sorely missed during the troubles & I would like to wish yourselves & Coffee all the best.

Just a note, but I'm unable to log in via my Andriod smart phone, only via the laptop.
