    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

My goal for the weekend/extended week is to clean the bike, going to be cold and wet here and with the family obligations not much riding. This equals a perfect time for cleaning and inspection.

Note: I am not a mechanic, I can barely change the oil and remove wheels.

So the learning curve must now be eliminated. As this is what sits in my garage after 3 hours of "what does this bolt keep on the bike"

I think this is as far as I can go without significant help. But I should be able to get to all the major components and check for wear/damage/leak/etc. Plus I can get the cat filter out of the exhaust and the red trumpet out of the air box.

On that note, I have read differing theories on the cat filter and trumpet basically leave them in or take them out completely and want more information.

This is an insert that can be removed, am I looking at the correct piece?

The trumpet in this bike has about 10 holes in it, should that be modified or just removed?

I have already disconnected the O2 sensor and removed the carb filters, so those have gone by the way of the trash. I have not yet sent the ECU out for flash to race map yet, that is coming once the vendor gets back to me.

As I pull this apart and clean, any leads on what to look for? I have already found some oil on the stator/alternator cover, this is from the seap/leak where the sensor wires go into that area (fixed with silicone). There is some oil on top of the engine head (mixed with dirt). No apparent other odd liquids or damage marks.

Will update as stuff goes back on and ask questions when I am done and there is a leftover box of bolts...
 
Get the cat converter out ASAP. With it in the engine has to work harder causing more heat to build up reducing power and potentially causing engine damage. Husky designed it to be easily removed...
 
Either remove the red trumpet or modify by opening the end with little holes to be one big hole.
 
Thanks... The filter would make sense as to why I keep thinking the bike is overheating

Rebuild begins later today, time to go print the workshop manual.
 
You don't have to remove the sensor on the '13. The ECU flash is the important part, combined with the trumpet removal/switch to open version/open the other version.
 
Challenge complete. Bike is back in one piece and runs great with some slight modifications. I only have a small box of parts left over and that is by design. Pics to follow after tomorrow's test ride.
