• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

chain problem converting te610 to sm

mnb

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I picked up some sm wheels for my 610. Investigation shows stock SM config is 16t/45t with a 112 link 520 chain. Exactly the same as it was, except one tooth larger in front. So I picked up a 16t front to replace the 15t that was mounted.

I remove the rear wheel and install the new 17" rear wheel, which I mounted a brand new 45t sprocket on. After struggling for two hours trying to get the chain on the sprocket, the axle inserted and the caliper positioned properly, I gave up on pre threading the chain. Another hour of struggling with the damned caliper and I finally got the wheel in place. I threaded the chain over the sprocket and spun the wheel to seat it, but it didn't go very far. Even with the adjusters pulled all the way in, the chain won't thread. So I pulled the clip off the master link and manually threaded the chain around the sprocket.

It's 1-2 links short (depending on how you count it). Say what? How can this be stock config if it doesn't fit? Is the documentation incorrect? Is there a 114 link chain on the SM? Does the SM actually use a 16/45 config? The chain is properly routed, it's not kinked up. It's just too short.

My TE to SM conversion setup is borrowed from IndyUnlimited who did the footwork to find out it works.....

116 link chain
TE - 50T rear and will accept 13-17 tooth front
SM - 47 rear and 17 front.......

Revs out a bit quick for my liking but I don't have to mess with changing chain length.

I found a bicycle chain calculator and put in motorcycle values. To test it, I put in the original setup: 15t/45t 112 link (I counted the links today to confirm)

16t/45t indicates a 114 link is necessary
16t/42t indicates a 112

I noticed on Regina's website, the chain they recommend for a 2000-2004 SM610 is a 520 116 link. They recommend the 112 for the TE610 of the same vintage.

So the Husqvarna Owner's Manual as well as the Service Manual are incorrect as both state a 112 link chain is used with a 16/45 sprocket combo for the SM.

BTW, the swingarm isn't shorter, they are the same part number for either version.
