  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

chain guide or no chain guide

Hello all i just made my 2012 TE511 into a motard with the 17" rim on the rear....so what is everyone doing with the chain guide? On or off? It will be used in the canyons and possibly reno fernley track until winter time then ill go back to the dirt setup....

ill post up pics when i get it done...

Leave it on, it also works as a "Shark" gaurd protector to keep body parts from getting wrapped around the chain sproket in a crash, ala Road Race bikes, especially the TM/BRP style

i put the rear together and it seemed to rub a bit so i took it off and spun much easier, just nervous about the chain slapping the mount points possibly with the guide off. will it wear in over time as the chain will cut grooves in the chain guide insert? first motard conversion....

yes.... it is normal for the guide to rub & the chain will make its own path. The wheel will turn easier when that happens & of course, I'd leave it on.

It wouldn't be a very good guide if it wasn't tight on the clearance. Looks good.

How many teeth are on the sprockets? Did you cut links and reuse your chain or do you have a dedicated SM chain with less links?

+1 A little contact is normal. The chain wanders a lot between acceleration/braking, even in a very loose state as long as you have drive from the front the chain guide should keep things sweet.

Leave it on for your skins sake. There is no real loss of grunt and the noise is minimal when underway.

duggoey-I believe it is an afam 46 tooth, left the front stock, figured that would be a good starting point for street, the stock rear is 52 I think, which is really tall...I have a dedicated SM chain with less links that I will use during the summer.

The nut from the chain guide is like an inch from the rim but if I put it together properly....shouldn't be an issue, holy cow just thought about putting flat head the other way thru guide to get some more clearance while I was typing this....any thoughts....

15/46? on 17's? I just ordered a 44 to go with my warp 9's....I am sick of being at 7k at 65 on the freeway (yikes!)

i still wanted some low end grunt but will probably play around with different set ups in the future....16.5 on the front BTW.....
