  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Chain and Sprockets

We stayed with the stock gearing and just recently put OEM Husky front sprockets and swingarm clain sliders on our '08's. We got the Husky rears, the red Husky special parts sprocket (Supersprox) also. We got these from MotoXotica. They keep the red sprockets on hand to. They look great. We went with RK 520EXW chains, with clip style master links. Time will tell how the chains hold up. I am not worried about the Husky sprockets. We each got 6K+ of on the gas miles out of our stockers. We should have ditched the CZ chains at the start though. Oh well. PC180126.JPGPC180132.JPG

I used the same Supersprox steel/aluminum 49 tooth cog for the rear, and the stock 13 for the front when I put the Metzeler 140/18 Enduro 3 on. I had originally intended to use a Kush sprocket, but I saw the red Supersprox unit on the shelf at Motoexotica, and it sold itself. I later went with a gold chain, and the look is real nice. If you like the bling, this sprocket is hard to beat.

The tire is tall, so the net gearing is about the same as the 14/50 I used with the 120/18 Enduro 3 I had on before. The current combo yields 6250 RPM @ 60 MPH, and the old setup was about 6000 @ 60MPH.

BTW, the rim I used 3.50X18) to mount the 140 tire is too wide for serous canyon riding IMO. The tread is 120 degrees on this rim. A narrower rim would pull the tire in more and provide a little more rubber on the road when leaning into the turns hard. I'm going to change to a 2.75 rim (minimum for the 140) when this tire is spent.

Is a 16 tooth CS sprocket available for 2006 TE510 bikes? So far a 15 tooth CS sprocket is the biggest I've found.
