  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Can a rear shock "sieze"?

Got an 09 wr300. Its been sitting for 3 weeks since my last desert 100 reace and it was totally fine then.... Just got to prepping it for this weekend and when I sit on it the bikes rear end stops at 3/4 of an inch down and simply stops. I have scoured the bike and see nothing stopping it from doing it other than the rear shock itself? Its only got about 500 total miles on it and I had LT suspension do a full rebuild on it in January. Am totally perplexed and possibly bummed!

update. I sat on it with all my force an it goes "clunk" but seems fine now and doesnt "stop" like it was.. What the eff could that be all about?

Maybe you had a little piece of rock wedged in the linkage somewhere.

If you are still worried, maybe you had better take the shock out and have somebody have a look at it. Better safe than sorry.

How are the shock and linkage and swingarm bearings? I like the rock theory from dirtdame the bestest:oldman:, though.

Check to see if you put the lower shock bolt in backwards if so can jam it. If so look for gouging on link arm if so buff it out to get rid of the stress riser.

We have had a few the oil was so sticky they did this and even made growling noises ?we just flushed and changed the fluid and worked great again.billf

Could do with a new chain as well - oh while you're at it, the back tyre could do with a burn out before you replace it :)

OK, So the bolt(in the pict) turns ok...but it never comesout.I can see it turning on the other side. Any advice other than renting a sawzaw and cutting it off?

Can't get the nut off? You can get a ring spanner that can over the bolt head and then use it as a lever to take the nut off?

If you got access to a dremel, buy a few cutoff disc's and go the hack on the bolt shaft?

apparently this was the clunk I was hearing. Sheesh...talk about close call]

ok stupid question but have been tinkeringwith this bolt the last couple days. Everthing is off the suspension. Including top shock bolkt. It spins and spins and spins. I can see it spinning on the other side. It never comes out. Its not threaded in here right...just resting on bushings? I just tried tapping it and no budging. I detest the thought of putting my ike back together and paying someone $100/hr just to get it out. I dont have a compressor so I cant really get to strong a force in there(also scared gonna break something.)

It is just stuck in there. Chances are the bolt is a little wavy from flexing around in there. Best bet would be cutting it off as close to the shock housing as possible and beating it out from there. Just my thoughts...

That's about the best way to go here. It's not going to give up easy. Might just pull the rocker from the swingarm and clamp it in a vise. It's probable going to have to be drove out, even after you cut it off flush.

Cut as close as you can to the shock mount then fill a container full of WD40 or some sort of lubricant, let it sit overnight and like Motorhead stated, clamp the rocker in the vise, let the shock rest on the bench, then use a pin punch or M6 or M8 long bolt and with decent hard taps from the other side, it should pop out.
Need to be careful with heat as it can dry out the grease in the bearing/bush.
