• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi folks!

A little background story on the bike: I got this as a basketcase when i was 16 years old. Motor was shot, rear wheel missing, spraycan painted black and left for dead. Got it home and tried getting parts for it but i was broke and parts where not available. Traded a 125cc motor from a roadgoing bike with some moped parts (here in Norway we have to drive 50cc moped from 16 to 18, lots of two stroke sweetnes :D). Got a husqvarna rear wheel and i had myself a proper frankenbike. Later on it got torn apart for various reasons. Through the years i have picked up alot of parts for it, including engine and a parts bike.

AND here the other day it struck me as lightning that..I have a complete bike! :D better get it together!

So here goes my never ending quest for a proper running Cagiva wmx 125:

As it been sitting the last 15 years or so

Started out small with fixing the gas tank. Soaked it in gas and got rid of the paint. Scraped, sanded and buffed it. Here its somewhere in the sanding:

Buffed and done

Parts bike. It looks complete but its pretty worn out. Frame has alot of funkynes going on. Think i keep it as spares, but you never know! if you have a frame you have a bike, right? :D It must have been on fire once cause the tank is melted on top, even the seatpan has melted.

Ohh looki here :D

140535328347875000_resized.jpg

She keep's fighting

All drilled out now, have to weld back a mounting tab for the exhaust pipe and seat mount.

Glad you like it!

Feels like i didnt get anything done to day, though stuff takes time.

Pipe was broken in two so had to weld it back.

140544858315853200_resized.jpg

Old weld didnt look to good inside

140544858472928700_resized.jpg

Then i put this to it!

140544858523414300_resized.jpg

Looks better

140544858884434500_resized.jpg

This stuff was all hell to weld, im used to crappy aluminum (read parts for local drift cars ) but this is supposed to be mild steel :excuseme:

Welded a crack in the frame

140544858771145300_resized.jpg

Also made up tabs for the exhaust pipe and cleaned up seat brackets.

Better pick up the pace tomorrow

I hear ya :D

But it is some satisfaction in fixing up stuff thats left for dead, put a little shine on em again ;)

I think you are right on pace. These things take time & sometimes some creativity, oh & money too. The slow cash flow is what paces me, weather I like it or not. Still love to do what I can with what I have.

Yep know all about it. Have an 85 yz 125 where everything is getting new, it costs way more than the bike is worth but what are you gonna do right? :D

First out a little rust removal:

140544858837111600_resized.jpg

Get the crap off with this

140544858712842100_thumb.jpg

Then i use this Ferrobet stuff, smells realy bad, hurts like ¤#@"# when you get it in the eye... so it must be working :D

140544858748113200_resized.jpg

Spray it on and rub with steelwool or scotchbright. Leave it for a while, i left it over night. Then it looks like this mess

140554527919713300_resized.jpg

140554528014099700_resized.jpg

Again put the steelwool to work and it looks like this. All the black pores are dead rust. This stuff penetrates the rust and kills it.

140554528605923100_resized.jpg

Now clean it good in clean water to neutralize? (is that a word? :D ) the acid. Put primer on it and paint

Seat bracket painted. Also fitted a hose to it.

140554528191579000_resized.jpg

People do weird stuff, seat mounting thingy is cut off
140554529107219700_resized.jpg

Made up a new one

140554528242184500_resized.jpg

Also started getting all the old paint and crap off the frame, well its a start :D

140554528690243600_resized.jpg

Brackets installed

140554528496595100_resized.jpg

140554529042321300_resized.jpg

Glued the foam back on and ready for upholstery

140554529073866500_resized.jpg

Had some left over "gripper fabric" from a cafe racer build. Almost done. Ran in to a little problem at the back, nothing big. Deal with it tomorrow when the store is open. (need pop rivets). The wrinkels will strech out.

And for now

Good on you s10an!!!

Brings me back to the days i did the same with a YZ100K (sold it for double what i paid for it, after 2 years of fun riding it)
I also gave a 1985 KTM350 2-stroke to a kid, it was in boxes, bare frame, etc.... in 2 days he had a bike :)

Really appreciate the effort and the posting's... Great to see such enthusiasm!
You will be so proud of your efforts.

Keep it coming :) I'm looking forward to seeing it progress.

Its going to look so good! When things start getting painted in original colours, it really starts coming together and you feel a great sense of personal achievement.
I wish i had some parts to donate to you...
EDIT: That pod filter cracks me up! The previous owner must watched too much "Fast and Furious"
