  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

bypassing dash/dash removal

In the process of track prepping my SMR 511. Have the TC plastics to install but need to remove dash and all road electrical (lights etc). Behind the dash is a BIG bowl of coloured spaghetti. Wondering if I can just bypass/remove and hook up the starter/kill switch?

Surely someone on here has removed and wired up, similar to what the TC system would be? Im not electrically minded and have access to the workshop factory wiring diagram but still have no idea. just want everything behind the dash (and dash itself) removed and be able to start/shut off bike via the RH switch block? Can anyone offer advice or do I need a TC wiring loom?

I had a go at this the other night and your right you cant fit the TC number board with the clocks in place, I undid the clocks and you can just get the board in place but Im pretty sure you can disconnect the loom for the clock and just keep the ignition connected and then the board will fit with out any issues. Let me know how you get on.

Yeah I was hoping that would be the case but unfortunately not. The RH switch block/ignition connects into loom which connects to dash. The whole front loom comes from there and heads back to ecu. Removing dash removes the middle link. I was hoping there was some way of connecting 4 wires from switch block to some of the 16 wires heading back to ecu?

Can you post pics of your set up?

I only offered the TC board up, I havent actually taken it all to bits yet. I will have a squizz on the weekend and take some pix :)

It must be possible, ive seen loads of 449/511 with boards and they cant all have been Tc's. I look forward to seeing how you have done it.

Ive done it but keeps the key. The mount for the dash was cut down so only the holder for the key was left. Works for me + the key is used the reset the TPS as well.

Did you keep the dash though? Im not fussed if I have the dash or not, dont have time to look when racing anyway.

I searched under your posts but couldnt see an explanation/pictures.

Just to clarify, you have removed the dash from an SMR and wired up started (either key or RH switchblock) to start WITHOUT dash?

Correct, I have no dashboard and I use the key to start with

Londin - Can you please post a picture of your wiring. So your RH switchblock/key ignition barrel must be wired into the main loom (thats disconnect from the dash) and runs back to ECU is this correct?
