• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Never mind, it was the end of the screen filter that broke off.

Spoilt sport....I would have got that, eventually.
Make sure you replace that screen with a new one.

Wow Eric. That’s scary. Thanks for the link. Now I’m worried about the replacement part. I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on it

It is a scary thought but, as with anything, it's all about keeping things in perspective (in that while this seems to be a not uncommon issue, it's not widespread either.) As far as I know I'm the only one who experienced a somewhat catastrophic failure- everyone else, I think, caught the piece (as you did.)

After the headaches I went through I considered running w/out it (and still think that would be fine) but I did put in a new one. That's been in here ever since (at about 20K miles on my 630, now, so it's been in there for approx. 11K miles.) I'm hoping/planning to do some winter maintenance items this season so will pull it out and check it soon (I think the last time I had it out was around 3K or so miles ago, and all was fine.)

So yeah- just keep an eye on it. I usually pull mine to have a look every third oil change (used to do every other, but there's never anything on that screen.) And by the way- I've pulled that engine cover many times and have re-used the original gasket many times- never any issues/leaks.
