  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Brass or copper in oil, any Idea where from?

Kam1

Husqvarna
AA Class
When I just changed oil on my 04 Tc450 found 2 slivers of gold colored material in oil that I ran through paint strainer while draining, anyone have any idea what this could be from? I suspect trans because last time out it seemed harder to find neutral, and also jumped into gear on its own while in neutral.

Sorry I dont know how to post pics, also screens and filter clean, and material is non magnetic. Thanks for any help really want to ride in morning.

I'm not 100% sure on this but anything that would look brass or gold colored may be from the connecting rod.It definately sounds like bushing/bearing material to me. How much time on the motor since the last rebuild ? Are there any new odd sounds from the motor, knocks taps etc. ? If you are unsure if/when the motor was last done you may want to delve into it, before something lets loose, that usually costs more than a rebuild because of the damage from whatever cuts loose ? Again I'm not 100% sure on this.

Ok the top end has 30 hours since overhaul, I took pieces in to work today- I am an auto technician- all other techs first impression is they look like electrical contacts. I checked the gear selctor switch-looks good no sign of damage, I have removed stator I noticed on wire not soldered on- is there any contacts in stator? I am going to check clutch next, the thing that is driving me crazy is both pieces are identical super thin, same width and length, even have same indintation- they look manufactured that way. I have called Halls and Moto Tech and boyh couldnt think of anything in case that is copper-this now I have deterimed is definite copper. Thanks for all the help, I am off to look at a clutch.

Sorry for slow reply, clutch looked great, I am going for short ride sunday or monday and am going to change oil again and inspect for copper. If there is copper or trans acts funny I will have to split case. If I split case can you upgrade to a six speed? I will also be putting in COUNTER BALANCER - however cost wise it may kill most of my season. Thanks again for any input.

Rode the bike for 34 mile loop,I drained the oil looked like brand new just like always, this is gonna bother me, but I cant justify splitting the case if there is no sign of copper material in oil. I will continue to strain oil when changing every 3-4 rides and monitor for copper. Thanks for all the help.
