  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Brand new '11 TE 310--what mods are a must?

Hi All-
I just got my TE from Malcomb Smith in Riverside, CA. I tend to keep things mostly stock on my motos except where necessary. I got the thick aluminum skid plate and Kouba lowering link (I'm 5-7 and like to have both feet touch when street riding). I have not done anything else to the bike. I want to get rid of that ugly carbon canister. Are there any smog block off kits for this model bike? I also intend to get the JD powersurge 6x gizmo. I'm reading from lots of threads that the JD powersurge is the way to go. Especially for these californicated motos. I plan to keep the stock exhaust. My primary riding will be trails, intermediate single track and short zips on hwy. maybe ride to work every once in a while (13 mile commute on PCH from Huntington Beach to Long Beach, CA). What else do I need?
Thanks in advance everyone, your advice is terrific!

I'd defiantly install radiator guards, I prefer BulletProof Design http://shop.bulletproofdesigns.com/product.sc?productId=54&categoryId=27
I ride in the rocks so I protect the rear rotor with Scotts Sharkfin http://www.scottsonline.com/Product_Photo_View.php?ID=1362&Make=Husqvarna
I like TM Design Chain Guides http://www.tmdesignworks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_4_75&products_id=8
And barkbusters of course, Cycra's are good http://www.cycraracing.com/, there are many types that are all good.
These items are a bit pricey but believe they are the best for the money.
I have the JD gizmo and that is a must for maximum performance.
Good luck and have fun,
Roger

It's probably better to change internal spacers in the forks and rear shock than using a kouba link. At least if you like your rear fender... The kouba won't change suspension travel, so if you bottom out the rear, it's going to rub, possibly hard. It could get enough friction to cause a crash when bottoming out. The space change is more involved, but it does retain the proper geometry for the bike, the kouba doesn't as it only lowers the rear.

The JD box is great. The bike even starts better with it.

Make sure you get the right bar clams for the cycras or whatever brand you choose (I'm fond of the Cycra Pro Bends myself). The Magura bars on the 310 are tapered and require special Magura clamps. Cycra makes them, but not all shops stock them.

Check out these places:

http://www.motosportz.com/ (especially for the axle nut, the stock one sucks)

Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the info on the mods. i'll be going for a break-in ride next weekend and will report back on the lowering link. Will get the bark busters etc too. I read the hard copy manual that comes with the bike and didn't learn much. I noticed some caps and other stuff in the box that came with the bike--I assume this is to undo the sensor in the pipe. Still need to undo the carbon canister. will read the USB manual for info.
