• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Brake fluid between braiding and plastic cover of brake line?

geastman

Husqvarna
AA Class
When I hopped on my 2018 TE150 for second ride, I noticed odd discolouration of front brake line near master cylinder, and a fainter discolouration further along. Not as clear in photo as in person, but it sure looks like (somehow) brake fluid has been squeezed between the braiding and the clear plastic cover.

Anyone seen anything like this? Brakes worked great, both first ride and after I noticed this second ride. The extent of discoloured area did not seem to change during second ride.

Here is a photo with red lines highlighting the two sections with discolouration. Click for full size.

BTW, stock jetting needs work and shifter feels odd but even so the TE150 rocks!

hmmm... I've noticed that before in a few brake lines and never really gave it any thought. (in the background, I have assumed it was caused by sunlight- but I don't know why I thought that).

now I'm curious.

that is the chem reaction between black rubber grommets and the clear covering , basically also oxidation of the clear stuff.
I would not give a second thought, it's only discoloration. The hose construction these days us extruded Teflon hose with over braid layered wrap the covered with clear usually PVC tube for anti chafe. The place where failures do occur is at the crimped on end fittings (banjo fittings) and when that happens you will see fluid moisture and or dust attaching itself to the moist brake fluid.

Thanks for info. I wasn't worried since no drips and worked well; just curious since I haven't seen this before. Good to know it is not unusual.
